    Default Phalanx + testudo

I'v been trying to get the spartans hoplites to get both phalanx formation AND testudo formation, but the game wont load unless square is in there. Any ideas? Also, sqaure and testudo formation leads to a crash in game when trying to form up, any ideas on that? thanks!

Multiple formations are pretty hard to change. IIRC, square or horde must be the default formation, and you can have one extra.

the spartans outrageos amount of health should make up for this, also phlanax formation offers extra protection againgts projectiles.....

Not entirely sure on this, but the word on the street is that the testudo isn't working because the Spartans don't have the correct animation for it. All units with a testudo option are legionary swordsmen, and spartans are spearmen.

If you swap out their animations with those of legionaries, it might work. They might start doing strange things with their spears though (i.e. using them like swords), and you won't be able to use phalanx anymore.

If you're really slick, you could splice the animations together, but that extends far beyond my area of knowing what the heck I'm on about.

Acctually, all infantry skeletons have reference to the testudo formation animations, so you can always have them in testudo formation, repelling arrows and such.
Just changing animations wont give them immunity against arrows, the testudo and phalanx formation attributes have been hardcoded and cannot be changed.
Maybe in future releases (updates or new series) CA will make it possible to create your own unique formations with corresponding animations, attributes, or even give us the ability of adding more animation combinations (attack, dodge, bash...).

So simply swapping some text in the EDU should give you testudo-able Spartans, as long as you don't get greedy and want to have them perform a phalanx as well.
