    Default EB with BI?

I seem to recall someone said you could start EB with the BI exe. How do you do this - is it by changing the target directory in the shortcut properties tab?

There are two ways you can do it. The simplest way is by changing the shortcut properties, but this doesn't allow you to play custom battles. You could also copy the data folder into the BI folder: this does allow custom battles. Both ways are described in detail in this thread.

I tried it with BI the other day. It's awesome! I was playing as Rome and the Carthaginians landed armies in Italy! That was a nice change

Notice: Note that this is not supported by the EB team and any bugs that encountered might not be supported. For first times, it's better to copy the files changed for easier back up in case you messed something.

    Step One

    1. Open Rome - Total War folder
    2. Open EB folder
    3. Open world/map/campaign folder
    4. Rename imperial_campaign into barbarian_invasion
    5. Open descr_strat.txt inside the barbarian_invasion folder
    6. Find campaign imperial_campaign and change it to campaign barbarian_invasion
    7. Save the file and exit the folder/s

    Step Two

    1. Open text folder
    2. Copy and rename imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt into barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt
    3. Save file
    4. Open campaign_descriptions.txt
    5. In the notepad (or any text editor) click;
    a- edit
    b- replace..
c- in Find what: box type IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_
d- in Replace with: box type BARBARIAN_INVASION_
    6. Save and exit

    Step Three

    1. On the desktop, right-click on the EB shortcut
    2. Left-click properties
    3. In the target line, replace RomeTW.exe with RomeTW-BI.exe
    * do not replace the whole-line, just the stated words above only.
    4. Click apply and exit the box
    5. Run the game....

Note: Just to add, this assume that prior to installing EB, you already have RTW and BI installed and patched to v1.6

alternatively, you can simply use this command line in the desktop shortcut: "RomeTW-BI.exe -mod" (instead of the usual "RomeTW.exe")

Using that command the engine will read the vanilla RTW (with BI.exe), not the EB folder.

Well in that case I'm not sure. It's not related to files changes to make the mod run with BI.exe though. You can try to see if that error exist when running EB normally though.

Is the CTD happen everytime at the same loacation ? Or it happenes when certain units are used ?

I've followed your directions and keep getting this:

Any idea what is going wrong? I play on regular R-TW with no problems.

Have you been able to play EB without the changes first ? It looks like a wrong isntallation (missing files) and not because of the changes as stated above.

I replaced the modified EB folder with the one i'm currently using in RTW 1.5 and i got the same missing file, i even tried opening it from in the BI folder(from the icon i would send to desk-top to create the shortcut) (that one caused a CTD right after the sega screen)

yea i tried to do the easy (shortcut change) way but i kept getting some error in locating something. Anyways it took a little extra time but doing it the long way was very succesful and i recommend it. Definitely EB on BI is awesome improvement over just 1.5. Playing as Carthage against Rome and let me tell you, having to deal with my invasion of their homelands (italy) and their invasion of my cities via the much improved AI invading by overseas assault is great. Harder, but great and much more unpredictable, which was making the EB on 1.5 to start get rather boring. Already had 3 major counter invasions by sea and im only a decade into the game or so.

ok let me explain this better... I put the EB folder in the same place that i put it for normal RTW (1.5).

    RTW (1.5) = Activision/Europa Barbarium R-TW 1.5/EB

    BI (1.6) = Activision/Copy of Rome - Total War(BI 1.6)/EB

they are the same files, but for some reason BI gives me the scythian spy file is missing, Rtw loads up fine :S

I followed everything that was posted by AngryTitusPullo. He didn't post where to put the EB folder though it seemed straight foward enough. Maybe I have it in the wrong place?

Do you manage to get the game running with BI (1.6) = Activision/Copy of Rome - Total War(BI 1.6)/EB without editing the files first ?

I only have a single installation of RTW-BI, which by default is D:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War and I install EB normally.

I do not have to put EB file anywhere. It's all in the default installation folder, which is D:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB

The changes are all inside the \EB folder.

Ok i'll try to explain this better. I reinstalled R:TW and then installed BI over then patched BI to 1.6 (the normal method) i then copied the EB folder that works just fine in regular RTW 1.5 and pasted it into the main directory of the copy of BI

My RTW 1.5 works just fine, but when I try to load up EB with the BI I either get:
    EB/data/Settlement_plans/Oasis.text, at line 4, Column 18
    data/settlement_plans/underlays/underlay_oasis_test.cas does not exist

or something about a Scythian spy(i posted a pic of this above) not having a texture...both of which cause a CTD

Do you manage to get the game running with BI (1.6) = Activision/Copy of Rome - Total War(BI 1.6)/EB without editing the files first ?
It was a week or so ago so I don't remember 100% but i'm pretty sure i tried to start it before any changes and then tried with the changes... neither time worked.

I'm anxious to try this, as I just bought BI (€5, couldn't just leave it there!). I wonder if it is possible to continue my current EB saves with the BI.exe, or will this perhaps result in crashes?

It's probably because the PATH is now wrong. Oasis.txt is looking for that file in (RTW)\data\settlement_plans\underlays...etc. When you copy all that stuff into the BI directory, the PATH is now: (RTW)\BI\DATA\settlement_plans....therefore, this will not work.

umm, don't know, i just make a clean copy to make sure i worked. Also i did the long way of getting EB to BI, but i don't know if save games will work. Even if it doesn't, you gotta do it to bring EB to it best potential so far!
