If you could make any movie

If you had an unlimited budget, and the services of any of your favourite actors, with the best screenwriters in the business working for you, and the best F/X studio money can get, what sort of movie(s) would you make?

Me? I'd make a science fiction series. Around 4 or 5 films long. We're seriously lacking in original sci-fi movies these days, what with Star Wars over and done with. Anyways, I don't know what the plot would be, but it would be kinda similar to Star Wars but would have a completely original storyline, not based on any comic book/novel/true event/whatever. The visual style would be pretty interesting, capital ships would all be over 1km long, but be very similar to WWI era dreadnoughts. They'd combine a variety of visual styles, B-17 style ball turrets for point defence, bigger battleship type turrets for ship-to-ship combat. Gun ports with medium-sized... i'll call 'em energy cannons for now, on the broadsides of each ship. And for once in a sci-fi movie, in space battles i'd actually focus on capital ship vs capital ship actions, and leave the fighters in the background. That's what I always wanted to see in a movie.

Anyways, that's me, what about you?

I'd do "Hannibal" and call it the "Lion of Carthage" or something. It would be totally epic, and feature the Romans as a foul race of imperialist slave-takers. The end, in Pontus, when the enemy surround Hannibal and he falls on his sword, would be truly epic.

As you included the unlimited budget, the battle-scenes would contain thousands of men and use special effects to enhance them to majestic proportions.

I suppose I would do a film on the Russian campaign of 1805-1806. And like Bondarchuk, I would use (hundreds of) thousands of real men.

Livia Cecil directed all those old Biblical movies with casts of thousands of extras.....The Ten Commandments and all that.

I would make a Warhammer 40k movie. Probablly the Horus Heresy, because it's just so damn awesome.

As for actors in my Science-Fiction Epic. Of course it'd feature some high quality fellows.

-Ghassan Massoud (exceptional as Saladin in 'Kingdom of Heaven' probably had the only good performance of the film)
-Emilio Estevez (probably as some daredevil fighter pilot, with a insane laugh)

It would also feature Orlando Bloom as Guy who gets disembowled #1

Thousands? Pfft! Have you ever seen Voyna i mir? That film had hundreds of thousands of real men in it. Though it was produced by the Soviet government. Close enough to an unlimited budget.

Sounds awesome (haven't seen it). Bring back the old days!

I will tell you now though that it's War and Peace. The film is over six hours long so I wouldn't recommend you try to watch it in one sitting (as I so foolishly did).

LOL Livia I read the book. That was enough for me without a poor/epic visual representation. Maybe they could edit it to just the masses of people bits....visual splendour always pales in comparison to literary expression.

To tell you the truth, I always found Tolstoy's descriptions of battle to be utterly boring. I guess it's a good thing that the rest of the novel was filled with philosophy and romance.

Has anyone done a film on the "Battle of the Teutoburg Forest" before?

I'd do a sci-fi series as well. But, mine would be based on the sci-fi book series that I'm writing. Think Star Wars mixed with X-Men, The Matrix Trillogy, Independence Day and Planet of the Apes and you might begin to get an idea of what the movies would be like. It would definately not be something anyone has ever seen before, that's for sure. I'm hoping one day they will become movies, in real life...

I would make a huge film trilogy covering every single important part of Roman history. I would have at least twelve movies maybe more, and I would definetly get every actor from gladiator except for the emperor, he was just plain weird.

I would make movies out of Bernard Cornwell's the Saxon Chronicles.

After that I would make some really great pornos!
