Default Vista and the Blue screen of death

OK so I installed windows vista on my new computer, possibly the dumbest thing i've done in my life.
    I got a core 2 e6300, gigabyte 965p-DS3, 2 gigs 5300 kingston, a 8800gts, 150 gig raptor.
So first off I tried to install the motherboard drivers, I get an incompatability message.
So then I installed the video card drivers, or so I thought, but whenever I try to play a game or even open a picture I get the blue screen and vista reboots with an error message.
I'm fairly certain the problem lies with my video card, I will probably end up just buying XP, but it would be painful to give microsoft anymore of my money.

I tried installing my network adapter so that I could update my drivers, but that was problematic as well so I cannot go online.

Did you try the mobo drivers from the vendors site ? Go and get new vista drivers for the mother board, also vista drivers for the GPU, they may be beta (if you have a Asus mobo), but it will work for now.

That video card is definately compatable with Vista, as are all the latest drivers for it, it was designed for DX10 so the 8800GTS is from it's inception designed to be utilized with the Vista OS. Your mainboard BIOS needs to be updated, which shouldn't be too bad because it's a current board and not going to be outdated soon.

And your probably right, going to Vista as your OS right now might be one of the dumbest things you could have done! Wait until it's offered as the standard OS on Dells, HPs, etc....then you'll know it's optimized and mature. BUT, all that said, if your computer build is brand new, then maybe suffering through the growing pains of the Vista OS right now is the best thing to do, instead of spending money on an OS your going to have to replace later. If I built a new system tomorrow and it had one of the 8800's in it, I would probably install Vista, and kick myself like your doing now!

Yeah, vista isn't too stable right now. The video drivers especially, I've heard a lot about how slow they are. Not many people actually buy Vista. It is now offered as the only available OS in HP, Dell, Toshiba etc...so in the next few years everyone will use it! So I would just stick it out and wait for the drivers to be optimized. They'll get it down eventually.

The only evidence needed to exemplify the power of Microsoft. They develope a new OS, and before it's even optimized or fully tested by the public, they have already forced it's implimentation upon the system manufacturers. "Heh, public, there will be NO boycott of our new operating system, got it!"

Buy XP. Format hard disk without windows and you will definately be able to install it. I can give you step-by-step instructions if it wont work. Better get your money back for the crappy Vista.

No, it's a Raptor, they be expensive....so better give it to me instead

Anyways: this is exactly why I'm going to stick with XP for now.

But I am happy that at least some people go trough the pain of being the first ones with Vista.
If it wasn't for people like over-man Vista would never mature.
