Question: Are there any subjects that the forum Moderators pick as focuses for debate or are they always user suggested challenges?

It may sound a bit conceited but, I don't know that I'd want to pick subjects to debate where I would always win.

And, sometimes, picking a contrary point just as an exercise really doesn't do justice to the topic. At times, having the challenge of debating something you had no hand in picking is extremely entertaining.

Of course, someone could challenge me to debate the philosophical contributions of primitive art as being intrinsically represented in underwater basket weaving folk art exemplified by Neopolitan artists of the 18'th Century... but, I don't know that I'd like to do that either.

We don't really choose any topics at all, it's all arranged by the proposed debaters and according to their wants and interests. If you want to have a debate, either PM the person you are interested in debating or post in the Challenge Thread with an open challenge of your topic and await a reply.
