Well what does it mean to you OP?
It has been surmised, that perhaps, my lord had become like a wild animal that had been kept too long. Perhaps, but whatever... freedom... so long an unremembered dream, was his.
The children of Doom...Doom's children. They told my lord the way to the mountain of power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the earth...HA!! time enough for the earth in the grave.
It's disgusting, as are all patriotic symbols.

All patriotic symbols? What about this symbol of atheist patriotism?

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. It stands for revolution, life, liberty, and private property. And hell, the pursuit of happiness to, whatever that means.
It's not a symbol of nationalism. It's not a symbol of corruption. It is the antithesis of repression and persecution.
I love it.
It's a symbol of the United States as a state, a country, a nation; it's a symbol of patriotism and nationalism for many, many people. It's utterly offensive and horrifying.
Yeah, umm, not so much. :wink:Any groupings of people can be considered a nation so the atheist nation.
Practicing something that happens to be existent within a country does not mean that I am patriotic for that country. Wholly illogical, that is.
Of course I don't only feel that way about the U.S.; this thread simply happens to be about the U.S. flag. If it were about the English flag, I'd gladly provide pictures of that flag burning, and the same for any other.understood. but what about other countries'
patriotism / nationalism? Certainly we cant put the US solely on trial for being the poster child of Imperial / Sovereign Influence in the last millenia,

Being British not very much. I think there is a line between patriotism and loving ones country. I love England but I believe Oscar Wilde when he said "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious".
A bunch of Indian Scouts and minutemen stood fast against the Brits, highstepping through the tall grass. VALLEY FORGE FOREVER.
A great Jimi Hendrix song.

well, i personally dont feel so much inspired by the flag as i did when i was alot younger. But i definately dont share AP's notion of it either.
@ AP
no disrespect intended, i am all for freedom of expression and free speech, and the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it seems you are very unhappy with the situation the US is or has put itself in.
Do you currently reside in the US? and if so, why not move if youre so unhappy with the current state of affairs? Once i find that I become too unhappy in one particular place, I take off in search of somewhere more promising
again im not trying to be offensive, perhaps just inquiring as to why you are so offended by what many consider to be a symbol of freedom, and prosperity?
I'm not unhappy with the U.S. specifically, certainly not as a location in which to live; I'm unhappy with the fact that patriotism exists and, ultimately, that nations exist.
It was written to the tune of an old drinking song if I'm not mistaken....
