I've just ordered it from play.com via a friend. Couldn't wait... although I've sworn to myself I'd no more buy a game right at release.
Well, 29€ ain't too much. If it's not utter crap, but a rather good game, it's not wasted money.

I am obsessed with this game, finally something that equals master of orion 2. Frogboy (head dev) has said they are probably going to add multiplayer in the future as well.

Go to their site and buy it digitally and use stardock central to download it. It stores all your keys on their database that way you dont have to worry about CDs. Its like Steam for Half Life except its reliable.

I downloaded it (thanks for the tip kanaric), but I'm still hooked on Civ 4 for the time being.

I've been waiting for it, might pick it up soon, or just wait til later when the price drops, since Oblivion's coming out soon.

BTW, exactly how is steam unreliable? I've had no problems with it besides it constantly deleting my favorites list.

Friends = down since 2004. I have deadaim logs from back then talking about how its never up.

Downloads are slow, much of the time.

VAC never works (i should know as i've hacked)

Their are other things. Just look up what peoples complaints are about steam online and you can find them.

M eh, I downloaded CSS in about 5 minutes, then had to wait an hour for it to patch. but otherwise, I really don't care so long as it runs and doesn't screw me over.

Well just got the game and managed to play for a little while.
    A few problems tho.
    1. Sound stutters from time to time
    2. Mini-map sometimes gets weird
    3. The diplomatic deals makes no sense
    4. After you have discovered all the AI factions the turns take forever to complete.

Other then that it is good so far.

Turns for me dont take longer than Civ 4.

The mini-map in Galciv 1 has been known to get wierd if you load a save game but it goes to normal after a turn, its a known bug they are working on in this as well. I assume thats what your talking about.

The diplomatic deals are based on a "points" system. Certain techs, money, stars, are worth a certain amount and the AI will only trade things of greater or equal value. Also their are some techs the ai will simply REFUSE to trade unless you give them an incredibly amount of things. These techs usually give them an advantage. Usually if you have a diplomacy bonus, which I ALWAYS take for a custom race, you can be ok.

They admit that the game needs some improvement, but they usually fix most of their bugs quickly. The only persistant bug in Galciv 1 was the minimap resetting after you load a save game, which isn't much of a big deal.

Thats wierd, havn't seen that. IDK how you are with downloading video card drivers, maybe you should try that.

What i'm talking about is when it saves and reloads, the influence showed on the map resets.

I got the latest drivers for my ATI Radeon so that shouldn't be a problem.

I am finding this game quite interesting. Bugs aside, it seems like it could keep me occupied for a few weeks.

Just had my very first battle and followed by conquering a planet.
Playing as the Terran Alliance and those damn Yor declared war on me(after reading their description on the homepage I now know why). Their defense were no match for my defenders( ) and watching the space battle was cool.
And then followed my transport ship and invaded one of their planets.
They had a huge advantage on the ground so I used gas warfare and a cool battle followed that I barely won with 20 guys to spare.

I LOVE the events on this game.

They always had these, Paradox Interactive uses something like that as well. IMO events like that where you can make a choice in games like these are always fun. CA should have some in their games.

    LOL.
Before I went in a rampage of conquest i had an event that let me use "zombies" as soldiers which increased my soldiering. Usually if I had 4 transports (4,000 troops) i was able to take even planets with even 20 billion people.
The hard part was when the Altarians (i was evil) went to war with me after I decimated the green colored aliens, forgot their name for a sec. The Altarians had technology that utterly decimated mine, however I had such high production that I produced more ships then they could destroy. They are still extremely difficult though, i need like 2 fleets of 6 ships to defeat one of theirs. One of their ships that owns me has like 20 missile power and a ton of laser power. Mine I have special "evil" weapons that give me 14 laser and 8 missile.

I love this game. I hope they add multiplayer in a patch like they said they may, then we can get some games going here.

edit: I usually play as a custom race.
