If you know the punishment is unfair, I think it's fair to alter the truth. If you do lie though make sure you lie so good you forget yourself it's a lie and make sure you try not to do whatever it is again.
I know there are some things I believe are true that never happened. They are just lies I convinced myself are real... so I wouldn't trip myself up.
If it's so bad though that it's too much for your conscience you should confess. Though time is good medicine so don't admit it too fast. Don't forget about it though and never confess because then it becomes one of those things stuck in your mind that depresses you.
Hope any of this makes sense to you... 'cause a bunch of stuff came at me at once.

Honestly, from my experiences, I say tell the truth. However, that doesn't mean you don't put a positive spin on it or give reason for it. Tell the truth, but spin it your way.
for-profit death machine.
Make up a lie thats sort of right but also sort of bended. The more truth you can put into it the better. Remember the highest success rate in lying is achieved by never lying.
You could tell the truth, and maybe your father will forgive you. Please don't lie about it, okay, maybe a little bit, but if your going to lie, at least think of something good to say.
Bottom line is, is that your better off not lying at all, its for the greater good that you tell the truth.
If you do tell the truth, I hope you will not be severely punished for it...
Lies will always bite one in the arse later. The truth never comes back to haunt.
If you will get caught it is pointless to lie. But if you don't get caught, lying is a good way to avoid trouble.
Depends on the situation, what are you trying to tell him?
Lying isnt that bad, just make sure nobody will ever know it. Thats the risk with lying.

Gotta learn to face the music eventually. For most people it's an easier and less stressful way to live.
If you never feel guilty about dishonesty, though, and are good lieing (like me), go right ahead.
There's a blurred line when the punishment is unfair or unjust (not just inconvenient), so take that into account as well.
People, especially your father, will have more respect for you knowing you told the truth. It's a sign of maturity (at least, what most people consider maturity).
From my experiance, honesty is the best policy, although telling a lie has gotten me out of a sticky situation or two. I am a bit paranoid about those lies being revealed though. Tell the truth.

lying can be justified, but not often. The truth is often easier to live with than a lie. The truth will set you free, as they say. I would avoid lying unless it is for a good reason (different moral codes will give you different qualifiers), but if your dad is not going to shoot you, beat you up, lock you in the basement, or otherwise abuse you, honesty is probably the best course.
Also, the truth, accompanied by repentance, remorse, and a promise of reform, can be both very effective and very liberating.
Lying is uncomfortable, but truth is oh so satisfying....
I say truth, always truth.
Depending what you're lying about.
"Dad, I hit a mailbox with the car" is not the same thing as "Dad, I murdered a guy and made a suit out of his skin."
Use your best judgment.
Would this dilemna really matter to a person who just killed someone and made a suit out of their skin? I dont really think truth or lies matters at that point, I doubt a sicko like that would stress over this.
Yeah, if you murder someone then maybe lying and fleeing to mexico is your best bet. Or else lying in court...But if youre a NORMAL person with normal problems, then go with truth. Lying destroys character and truth builds it up, work on justifying your version of the truth and stay away from lies.
