    Default imb for Divus

right, I know what the rules say but I think there are times where rules need to be ignored, and this is one of them.

Imb has basically saved this community, but more importantly than that he has behaved impecably since then. He could have bought the site and then imposed decisions, he hasn't. He has talked to people, consulted and listened and the site is in a much, much better place than it has been for a long time.

I don't think that anyone since the original founders deserve the title more.

So, I propose we say stuff the rules and elect imb as divus, anyone agree?

No, if everyone agrees on the rule then it would be hypocritical to change it without due process.

Incidentally, this is the sort of reason why I think there shouldn't be these bloody steadfast laws, in the first place.

well, there are legal ways around the law - ie. if enough people agree imb should be Divus then we could just write a syntagma amendment to allow it in this special case - still follows the rules.

I still think it is important he gets divus after all he has done.

Incidentally, this is the sort of reason why I think there shouldn't be these bloody steadfast laws, in the first place.
Agreed, we need a lot more guidlines than rules - its a fallback to the ON days where nobody really trusted HEX/ON and therefore tried to regulate them. Now I think we need to go with more trust than regulation, but it will take a while.

I don't agree, I think only those who have stepped down from whatever rank they held should be given Senatorii or Divus, as Divus is essencialy a ramped-up Senatorii. Wait till he gets tired of being up there (which everyone seems to someday) and before anyone complains about him being site owner, his rank is what he wants it to be, when he gets tired of being an administrator he can quite easily resign from Hex and his privaleges.

    i don't agree....

Imb wouldn't be wearing the badge anyway, he's got his shiny admin badge to polish. i don't deny he deserves recognition, but i somehow suspect that by the time Imb resigns we're not going to want to give him divus. we're going to be creating something more, just for him!

Imbus? I think that could work.

No, unless you propose a "Stuff the rules act"

I agree, Ian will be Divus one day but as he is still on duty he will have to contend with reputation, shameless arse kissing and the ablility to change people names to naughty things!
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

Or we create a new 'messiah' rank?

Personally I don't think imb should be a divus yet, laws can not even be chnaged for the Gods...

Imb should be made a divus - when he quites as being a admin - the position is for ex staff members not current ones.

The same day that the rules allow him to become a divus he should be proposed but not until then.

I disagree with the proposal, while we all know imb39 contributions for the site, this is not how we should credit him. imb39 knows how much me value him, there is no badge to change that fact, when he resigns, I will be the first to support his Divination, but not now.

I have a feeling that even if this would get into vote imb39 would not accept this honour, of course this is just a speculation.

God-Emperor and give him a Golden Throne....

I oppose this proposal on the grounds many have already noted: He's currently a staff member, we can't have an exception, even of Ian. Much as I would wish it. (I might add he'll probably turn this down anyway).

Hold on, I am sure we have had a Divus member of staff before, wasnt Spartan a staff member whilst he held Divus rank? (Accepts that I may be speaking bollocks)

He was awarded Divus for his work in a previous tenure as staff. I refuse to acknowledge that imb39 has ever not been staff.

We are passing over the 1 day resignation? Or when he got demoted various times by Archer or H&G? Of course, what Imb is being made divus for hadn't happened at those times, so it would be rather foolish to make him divus for those terms. Though also none of those were for three months... you could easily read the Syntagma to require it to be such.

I thought Spartan became divus before he rejoined staff? Shaun would be right though, you can be divus and be staff.

perhaps instead of badges we could have a section on the front page with either static or scrolling names of those who are bound to be honored - kind of like hall of fame type thing. That way people would see those who have honored the site and their names would be more visible and permenent than a badge. What do you honored patricians of the curai think?

Yes, he was. that's kind of what I meant, though I wasn't clear about it. The problem is, imb has never been not-staff for more than 30 days in total since becoming it (amazing really....)

Errmmm.... No thanks. The only rank I ever wanted was Senatorii with the badge of a golden wreath (or some such). Definitely the best one I've seen here (though some of the Exarch ones are fabulous too...

Anyway, I am closing this. It's unconstitutional at best and not something I particularly want. Thank you Tac, and others. I really appreciate it.
