    Default Introduce Yourself:

First off I would like to say that the people involved in this project are very dedicated team members hard at work on this mod. Everyone on this team does an exceptional job at their work to deliver the best work possible for everyone to enjoy.

This thread is pretty much to get to know the people who are working on this and for us to get to know them..

Originally I only wanted to create a music modification for Roma Surrectum because I enjoyed it so much. Then it kind of just happened and I joined the team, now besides music I am working on creating a new culture, replacing the panzy voice in game with sound effects, and remaking the generals inspirational speeches (very soon). So in other words I have pretty much became the 'sound guy'. I did this for a mod before but it died, but unlike that mod this team is very dedicated and it will not die.

That aside I am a 24 year old alarm tech by trade.

Just a thread where our team members can introduce themselves and you can introduce yourself. We had something similar in the developer forum. Feel free to reply and tell us about yourself even if your not actually a part of the Roma Surrectum team. This is not a formal thread, and of course participation is voluntary.

Just so you know, I have tried all other mods available, including the major ones like RTR etc etc.. but nothing caught my eye like Roma Surrectum. I feel this mod is heading in the right direction, and quickly.

Well I found out about this mod about 3 weeks before it came out and I was stunned to see what I saw in the previews. I couldn't wait for it to be released and I began checking the forum every 15 mins for any new information about the mod.

By the way im 20 and in college. Also, Im a Beta Tester for the mod.

Now, I have also played almost every other mod out there and they don't just feel as well made and they don't give you the same feeling of satisfaction that you get out of Roma Surrectum. The feeling is so good when you slaughter a Germanic army with your well disciplined legions that I cant help but wonder why the original RTW wasn't this good.

Well, I guess I should introduce myself also. I'm a 56 year old Senior Computer Technician, and have worked with computers now for 15 years or so. I happen to enjoy the intregal parts of things and how they work, and that includes the Operating System, software, and games I'm intersted in.
When I first got RTW, I thought it was too hard. I couldn't understand anything, and threw it back in the box for a year. Then I came back to it out of sheer boredom with RedAlert2, which I played until the CD wore out!
My first Mod experience was with BareBones by Repman, and I've always had a special place in my heart for it......lot of fun, and I learned a lot. Then I played SPQR for a while, until I had a heart attack and it killed me....just kidding. Very intense, I loved it.
I started modding RTW just a little bit here and there for myself...changing stats, recruitment...little things. Camped on this site for hours and learned what all the 'Masters' had done, then started building a BI time period mod in RTW just for my own pleasure.
Finally, a year ago or so, I decided to start a RTW era mod, again just for myself.....but then someone on this site asked if it was possible to put all of Rome's Legions in a mod, with all their individual banners and names. The answer was that you 'could', but it wasn't likely anyone would. I came into RTW in it's supposed 'twilight'...MTW2 was on the horizon and people said that more than likely, no one would bother with RTW anymore.
BUT, I LIKE this game, and I love the this time in history...so it became a challenge to me to do what no one else had done.
Eventually, I asked in the forums if anyone would be interested in this mod, and helping with it....and that's when Tone and Tyr and CherryFunk, Northern Ranger, SquidRS and all the others came in....contributing history, ideas, talents I done have...and made (and are making) Roma Surrectum better and better.
We have a small team of dedicated people who are doing this while tending to their own lives, studies, etc.....so it seems slow going at times. But with every patch progress is made. So, slowly but surely, Roma Surrectum will develope inot a first class mod, I hope. But aside from the fact that I wrote it, the real credit here goes to people like LT1956, Repman, Lusted, Darth, Sinuhet and countless others who provided the foundation for these ideas and the expertise for how to implement them. I like to think it's a little bit of all of them in one.

you guys are doing awesome work and i can't wait to play the next release

rep me if you like my posts, and it's highly likely you'll get some back

    Hello there,

I'm one of the beta-testers, "specialized" in Ptolemics, and also translator for the French version.

That being said, I'm a 28 public servant in a high school in Central France. I played Rome Total Realism and SPQR mods before coming to RS.

    Default Re: Introduce Yourself:

I'd better introduce myself. I'm 40 (just), and hadn't played RTW until about May last year. I was originally looking for LOTR and Napoleonic games and saw that there were mods in progress for both of these for RTW, so bought it in readiness.

In the meantime, I started playing some of the mods, Darthmod, RTR, TFT, BBW and lastly SPQR. For me, SPQR was the best, although coming up against the Thracians in Darthmod was pretty heavy going, because of the Bastarnae with big attack and two hit points each.

I then saw LegionIII, an interesting mod by a Russian guy who had used all sorts of stuff from other mods, although I think he'd created some stuff himself. It was very interesting, a lot to like about it, but the key concept was the unique legions skins idea which really appealed somehow. But once I realised he'd used a lot of stuff from other mods without permission it became less appealing.

Around this time I saw DVK's thread and thought "It'd be good to get involved beta testing, as there's a lot of potential here". Downloaded the first beta and thought "Loads of potential, but needs more graphic enhancement and it's just itching for someone to put some different skins on each Roman legion like in Legion III. Could also do with some nicer loading screens, etc". For me visuals are important. I kind of waited around to see whether anyone was going to do this then realised that there wasn't anyone who was going to bite that bullet, so had a play around with lighting and skies once I'd worked out how they had been done in BBW. I then started toying with some basic reskin ideas about 3 months ago, working things out as I went along...and then I was hooked! I've not done any sort of skinning before, but have used graphics editing software for website graphics and so on, so it wasn't too hard to pick up the basics. I'm still learning.

I'd love to have the time to do better skins on the mod that would compare with those in EB, but a) I don't have time b) I have almost non-existent modelling skills at the moment, although have learnt one or two things this last week.

I haven't tried EB other than a couple of years of a campaign and a few custom battles, but my feeling is that this mod appeals in a different way. Not as historically accurate probably, but maybe more fun? I hope so! Anyway it's great seeing more people coming on board the team and the skills and talents that they all bring. I think DVK has started something really good here, and really broken out of the mould in terms of mods. Looking forward to seeing how things develop further.

I'm currently working through all the factions reskinning them one by one, using some current models and some skins / models with permission from other mods either unedited or with a degree of reskinning. My hope is that the end product (if there ever is such a thing) will be visually satisfying for even the hardest to please.

    Hello to all!
I am from Russia (so sorry for my English in advance ), and there are many Russian guys who play your mod. It's wonderful!!!

But I must to inform you (authors of this mod) that in Russia and Ukraine we've been playing in mod with "named" legions for some time (I guess some years). This mod is LEGION mod. There are named legions with individual textures, skills etc. It looks also nice as Surrectum, but unfortunately has many bugs... Im suprising that you didn't hear about it, 'cause this mod is made in English...

Any way, many thanks to authors of Surrectum - it's really fantastic mod!!! We are looking forward your next releases!!!

Thanks, but read my post above - that was part of the inspiration for the different skins! The other thing to be aware of is that the Legion mod, when I last downloaded it had a parite virus in it....doesn't do a lot of damage, but makes your computer freeze or hang randomly.

Dominic, I am aware of Legion III....the guy beat me to it, in fact. But unfortunately, there's a reason he beat me to it as well. I waited MONTHS getting permission to use various skins in RS, and was as careful as I could be to ask permission, and\or give credit to anyone whose stuff I used. The creator of Legion III asked NO ONE for permission, and used the work of others without ever giving them any credit.
A lot of people don't like that...including me. I feel that the artists and writers who work on this game AT LEAST deserve credit for their work, and the decency of being asked for permission to use it. And permission is almost always given...that's what's so dumb about NOT ASKING.
Therefore I refuse to even look at the mod, or give it credit for anything except stealing other people's work and passing it off as his own. Maybe that's a little harsh, but it's the way I feel about it.

I'm glad you like RS, and I hope you'll continue playing it.

BTW, please don't take this and turn this thread into a Legion III bashing. Enough said.

Hi, I'm a 2 months short of my 29th. I work at a post-secondary institution. I picked up RTW on the recommendation of a collegue close to 2 years ago. It along with one other game are the only games that I play anymore.

I'd been puttering around with some moding stuff one day when I bumped into a thread about the RS. What grabbed my attention about the mod was the treatment of the Free Tribes factions and how they worked and I thought this is by far one of the best ideas I've run across in a mod. I watched and waited and when the 7a patch came out downloaded it and was hooked. Then I noticed a little bug, and I reported it, and then noticed there were some bugs that people were saying needed to be fixed, I knew how to fix them, and here I am.

Hi, I'm 24 and a college student attending the University of North Alabama, in the city of Florence, Alabama, in the US.

I first found out about RTW about a year and eight months before it came out, after I heard some rumors on some MTW forums that CA was developing a game based during the Roman era. This naturally got me excited, since I couldn't wait to see what the final game would look like after seeing the first trailer for it (IMO, it's how CA should have made the final product look like). The day the game was released, I was pretty much the first person at the store, in actuality, the first shipment had gotten there not long before I did and about as soon as the clerk had gotten the price tag on it after getting it out of the box, I'd bought it and was ready to install it on my computer.

I found out about RS no long after the announcement was made that the mod was in development. I had played RTR, SPQR, and DarthMod before this, and with exception of SPQR, RS is perhaps the most fun I've had playing RTW in a long time. I didn't discover that RS had been released until five weeks ago, but since then after downloading it, I've hardly been able to stop playing it, that is, when I've satisfied my recent addiction to KOTOR 2.

RS is the most fun I've had playing RTW is the longest time, and if the updates are as good in reality and they look in the forums, then I shall indeed be spending many more hours playing this excellent mod.

Since the is an INTRODUCTION thread, I will get it back on track with this:

I am a 15 year old (16 this month!) from Columbus, Ohio. My favorite classes are Honors Chem, and Math, but I would absolutely love to work on something Ancient History - related on college. I am heavily involved in my Youth Group, and am in fact the President of my Chapter.

Also, I am the Head of Publicity for the mod, and I am looking forward to working with all the wonderful people on the mod, all striving for a common goal. In this position I will be putting together the faction previews, monitoring the public sections both here and the RTR forums, and I have recently been trying to see if we can get a subforum for our outstanding mod at the .org. The rest of my job includes writing all of the new unit descriptions, and things of that nature.

Glad to be part of the team!

Hi iam 46, Me and my wife have a business, we are designers for inside and out for homes.
from landscape to decerating. I came here by a line of modds.
I received this game for my son for us to play now and then.
We only had dailup at the time, so we tried XGM by dimebagho.
because it took only 3 hours to download
Since being my first modd i was very impressed. And played the game more than him.
When i had time i tryed later some lite modding myself.
From the prefs. to data unit dec. unit stuff.
    Once we had highspeed
i tryed Barebones wars. liked it in some ways other i didnt. I thought it was too unhistoral
Then i tryed lusted modd it was far better yet some things culd be better.
Then EB, i was overtaken! There was so much to see and do i didnt know where to go first!
i loved the wonders on the map and in a battlefield.
i loved the events, history of the that world. Gave me more understanding of that period. But didnt like all the skins! mostly the greeks.
But when one day i saw the shinny RS shields on the romans and newer greeks plus the beautifull skys i was sold! I was happy to see a mix of historal and of course the spartans, and greek units.
I know DVK is planning from what i read to make things more historal and ifeel that would be a good idea for these skins, models, are the best yet.

thanks to all the team members!!
    Its a beuatful adventure!
