    Default troubles controlling iberia

does anyone else have troubles to keep iberia under your control?
i conquered gaul and it's under my control with 4 armies (2 legions + 2 alea legions) controlling its northern borders. in most of my cities i have only a garrison of 2 town watch.

but when i conquered the last stronghold of the gauls (in northern iberia), the troubles started. before i conquered the last gaul city, i had conquered 2 iberian rebel cities and defeated 2 full stack of bull warriors and what not.

those 3 cities i possess in northern iberia, were exterminated, most of their foreign buildings destroyed and garrisoned by a full legion. so i had 3 legions in northern iberia for controlling it and yet there were several civil revolts and some parts of my army rebelled.

i retook one city, killed everyone and still i couldn't control the city. every turn i lose men and money for repairing buildings.

iberia isn't really that important for me, but it has lucrative mines and when i start a war with carthage, it's another frontline from where i can launch an attack. so any hints/tips/advice how i can keep iberia under my control?

welcome to the friendly land of Iberian Rebels They all look like silly peaceful clowns dressed in funny bull-like garnments... wait!!! they actually rebel Well that's SPQR surprising us again

Iberia takes a long time to control and u need to commit some serious military resources for some 20 years ... in SPQR Iberian cities r tweaked to give the player a hard time to conquer, thus emulating historical difficulties the Romans themselves had.

u need to commit lots of auxilia/light troops to garrison all recently conquered cities but leave 2 legions roaming around to pacify the most rebelious ones... Destroy ALL foreign buildings and build roman structures in every single city. Advance in waves... don't conquer all cities at once u won't be able to handle it unless u put all ur precious vet legions garrisoning them

u need to bring all ur most influencial/managerial family members who are geting bored in Italy and install them as governors in these newly conquered cities... they r the key to pacify them with medium-sized garrisons

construct roads and happiness structures before anything else... ship ur garrison troops from Italy and Gaul... after a period of 20 years or so ur cities should be less rebelious but I still would leave 1 imperial legion stationed in the peninsula :hmmm:

conquer northern and western Iberian cities first and always try to leave a buffer of rebels between ur lands and Carthage... this will avoid opening up another war front

yeah i was gonna ask...how do you bring unrest down? some of my cities (like carthage) which i've held for like 10 years still have very high unrest percentages...i know i can build happy structures but i'm talking about bringing down unrest itself (represented by that little fire icon in the city scroll)

Well as he said take one city at the time and dont rush taking whole iberia at once....lower taxes, build tempels...worst scenario you could always exterminate the settlement its cruel but sometimes necessary when unrest is at you all the time....

yeah i know you can destroy their temples and build your own happy structures...my question was about bringing down unrest AS REPRESENTED BY THE FIRE ICON IN THE CITY SCROLL

sorry for the caps but people seem to have disregarded that part of my question

im not quite sure how to bring down unrest. sometimes its still there even after i manage to get the little green face show up over the city name. my lame guess is that its just a matter of time with a good governor.

Another way to handle your people could be by intentionally spreading the plague there. Specially useful for cities like Carthage which are already packed with people by the time you invade.

yeah i only ask because i've had carthage for something like 15 years with all happy structures built (and all roman buildings except for councillor's chamber which can't be destroyed) and i'm still having unrest problems...if things get bad i might have to let the city revolt and then retake and exterminate

You cant bring unrest down only counter it. This is set in the game files for each province to be a certain unrest. Iberia is the most Fun Rebels in ANY MOD IMO. lol

P.S. Jerusalem is bad also. ;-)
