Finally some art after a few months of drought... and this new discovery I made is awesome indeed. Perhaps you others are already acknowledged with my new discovery as the movie is from '99 and the song is from '33... But it was still a revelation for me this week-end... such simple lyrics however, the only description of love I'm in agreement with. So I liked it! Indeed an adequate song for a triumphal suicide.
I was quite disappointed however by some endings changed in the song... I mean... even Bjork which IMO would've got the best version of the song if she wouldn't have changed the ending. Except this thank gods there is Diamanda Galas with an amazing version, perhaps the best (youtube link here). Altough I like Sam Lewis translation without (as I said) the inserted ending which turns the entire song into a commercial product.
I saw the movie today and it did reach my expectations, and got even further. Perhaps it was the movie with the largest nazi-hate bringing amount. I'm glad I finally found a nice piece of art...
If you don't know what I'm talking about you can try searching further versions of the song on Youtube or even the movie which might be available here-there, also you can find an article at Wikipedia on the song, which sums most of the facts.
Here are lyrics in English to make it easier for you guys:
Sam Lewis’ lyrics, first used by Billie Holiday, but later changed with the awful ending.

And if were really going to commit a suicide after this, here is the awful ending I was talking about... which has broken Bjork’s song and the later versions of Billie Holiday.

Here is Desmond Carter’s translation, which Diamanda Galas uses, and these have their own gift as well I’d say.

But I’d rather have you look upon this to get further info and more lyrics versions.
If you do know what I am talking about then I'd be glad to hear the impressions you remember you had first time you saw the movie or heard the song, and what version of the song you like the best.
