    Default RTR Platinum v1.8 Release

    RTR Platinum v1.8 Release

A Roman legion on the march.

The RTR Platinum Team proudly presents the v1.8 build for download. There are several fixes and updates within this build, making it the most stable build for RTR Platinum. These fixes and updates though make it non-save game compatible. Because of this, and to make support easier, there will only be a single full installer available for download.

The Preferred Method for installing RTR Platinum v1.8
    1. Install Rome Total War.
    2. Install the RTW v1.3 Patch.
    3. Install the RTW v1.5 Patch.
    4. Download and install the RTR Platinum Full Install. The "RTR_Platinum_v1.8_Full_Install.zip" file is approxiamtely 220MB in size.

    Available download links (Choose one):

Optional Step: Download and install the optional add-ons for RTRPE v1.8. They are exactly what their name implies and you do not need to install them if you don`t want to. These optional add-ons consist of...
    • No Landblocks Optional Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do not wish to use the Libyan Desert Landblock and the Asia Minor Landblock. These are copies of the RTR Platinum files before the addition of the AI enhancing landblocks.
    • No Torches for Night Battles Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do not wish their troops to have torches in night battles. These are copies of the original files of Vanilla RTW v1.5 that were overwritten by RTR Platinum. This optional add-on was requested by a few members of the RTR Forums community.
    • Roman Cognomen Mod: This is an optional add-on that will add more realistic full Roman names for your in-game Roman Republic characters.
    • Sinuhet's AI Battle Formations Mod: This is an optional add-on that will substitute the AI battle formations of Darth Dark Formations v16.0 for those of Sinuhet's AI Battle Formations Mod, which some prefer.
    • Vanilla RTW Grass Settings Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who wish to use the original grass settings in the "descr_grass.txt" file of Vanilla RTW. The grass settings in the "descr_grass.txt" file of RTR Platinum more realistically represent real-world grass in-game, but at the cost of increased hits to the FPS rate of the game. For lower-end computers, this can significantly decrease the FPS rate in battles, thereby decreasing the gaming experience of the player. This optional add-on was created to assist anyone playing RTR Platinum on a less than optimal computer to still enjoy RTR Platinum. This add-on may be especially useful for anyone who plays RTR Platinum on a laptop computer, due to laptop computers usually having a less capable graphics card.
    • Vanilla RTW Loading Bars Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who do wish to use the original loading bar of Vanilla RTW. These are copies of the original files of Vanilla RTW v1.5 that were overwritten by RTR Platinum. This optional add-on was requested by a few members of the RTR Forums community.
    • Macedonn's EB Animations DMB Add-on: This is an optional add-on for those who would like to try an alternative DMB created by Macedonn, that uses some of the best of the EB animations and skeletons.

If you want more info on how to install RTRPE, or how to upgrade your RTW game to be the correct version see this detailed guide: http://forums.totalrealism.net/index...howtopic=20756

If you want to know how to play RTRPE using the RomeTW-BI.exe game engine, see this guide: http://forums.totalrealism.net/index...howtopic=22756

Here is a copy of the v1.8 Change Log. It can as be found in the "Docs\RTR Platinum Read Me" sub-folder of the folder you use chose to install RTR Platinum within.
    1.8 Change Log - 02/10/2007

    - Reviewed and added an updated resource list to the "descr_strat.txt" file, using the "descr_regions.txt" file as a guide and using the ratio of campaign map icons used in the Vanilla RTW files as a guide.
    [Files changed = descr_strat.txt and descr_regions.txt]

    - Sarkiss, via the TWCenter Forums, has reported that the mines in the Trapezus region have no income when he was playing as Armenia. This is a problem that someone else reported it to me via email or a forum post or PM, though I forget who. It may very well have been Sarkiss. Its due to a resource being misplaced on the campaign map via the resource listing section of the descr_strat.txt file. It one of the reasons I'm slowly going through that file and the descr_regions.txt file to correct mistakes like this. Its basically the same reason that elephant units could not be built in Carthago in the Africa region. This will be fixed via the review of the "descr_strat.txt" file and "descr_regions.txt" file and will be part of the RTRPE v1.8 Full Install release.
    [File changed = descr_strat.txt and descr_regions.txt]

    - Updated to the new Darth Dark Formations 16.0 (RTRPE Version).
    [Files changed = formations.txt and descr_formations_ai.txt]

    - It was reported to me by Antonius Brutus via the TWCenter Forums, that the Mt. Etna volcano was not erupting properly. When ever the Etna eruption event message appeared, Mt. Vesuvius down south in Sicily erupted instead. When the Vesuvius eruption message appeared, Vesuvius erupted properly. I had not noticed this, but checked into it. After a quick comparison with the "map_features.tga" file of Vanilla RTW, I located the problem. The "red" dots on the "map_features.tga" file represent the volcano locations, of which there are only two. The color of each in the Vanilla RTW file are the same, but in the RTRPE file the Etna Volcano is a darker red, which was wrong. The game engine uses the RGB color code to identify items on this map file and if the color code is wrong it will not work. I corrected this this and added it to the RTRPE v1.8 Full Install release. Thanks go to Antonius Brutus for reporting this.
    [File changed = map_features.tga]

    - Corrected the battle graphics for the Carthaginian Scutarii Cavalry. This change effects the "descr_mount.txt", "descr_model_battle.txt", and "export_descr_unit.txt" files. RTR Platinum v1.6 added this missing unit to the Carthaginian available force selection, but the graphics update for it was left out. This correction would have increased the number of DMB models used by RTR Platinum from 242 to 243, reducing the available free slots for new DMB models from 13 to 12, but the useless "Nowomai Warlocks", also known as the "Fat Warlock", has been removed. Any mod that uses RTR Platinum and already replaced the "Fat Warlock" with a new model will need to decide whether they wish to use this correction or remove it, replacing it with their own DMB model entry.
    [Files changed = descr_mount.txt, descr_model_battle.txt, and export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Unique sprites were added for the Carthaginian Scutarii Cavalry and the Iberian Scutarii Cavalry. Previously they were using the sprites for Roman Heavy Cavalry. Minor changes to their EDU entries were also made. This change was suggested by and changes written by Florin80.
    [Files changed = descr_mount.txt, descr_model_battle.txt, and export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Corrected the animation skeleton used for the Thracian Heavy Cavalry soldier in the "descr_model_battle". It now correctly uses the "fs_hc_spearman" skeleton, instead of the "fs_hc_swordsman" skeleton, so it will use its spear in melee like a spear, stabbing at its enemies, instead of like a long sword. This change was suggested by Florin80.
    [File changed = descr_model_battle.txt]

    - Corrected the animation skeleton used for the Seleucid and Ptolemaic Legionaries to use the "fs_s1_gladius" skeleton instead of the "fs_swordsman" skeleton. This change was suggested by Florin80.
    [File changed = descr_model_battle.txt]

    - Corrected the spelling of "Pergemene" in the "imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt" file.
    [Files changed = imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt]

    - Corrected the spelling of "Ptolemais Hormos" region in the "imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt" file.
    [Files changed = imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt]

    - Extensely corrected the grammar used in the "quotes.txt" file. I also updated a few of the quotes with further info.
    [File changed = quotes.txt]

    - Changed usage of "Carthage" for ownership of Carthaginian troop units for a uniform approach to their ownership. This is how Vanilla RTW shows ownership for Carthaginian troop units. Ownership of Cathaginian naval units is shown via "Cathaginian".
    [File changed = export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Added the EDU corrections suggested by Florin. These consisted of changes to the EDU values of the "barb chieftain cavalry gaul", "barb chieftain cavalry german", "macedon general's guard cavalry", "aor gaul light cavalry custom", and "aor gaul spearmen custom" units.
    [File changed = export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Added updated Loading Screens modified by Anallein.
    [Files changed = loading_screen_1.tga, loading_screen_2.tga, loading_screen_3.tga, loading_screen_4.tga, loading_screen_5.tga, loading_screen_6.tga, loading_screen_7.tga, loading_screen_8.tga, loading_screen_9.tga, loading_screen_10.tga, and loading_screen_demo.tga]

    - Added Macedonn's "RTRPE - No Senate" change to the RTRPE v1.8 build.
    [Files changed = descr_banners.txt, descr_building_battle.txt, descr_character.txt, descr_formations_ai.txt, descr_model_battle.txt, descr_model_strat.txt, descr_names.txt, desc_sm_factions.txt, export_descr_advice.txt, export_descr_advise_enums.txt, export_descr_sounds_prebattle.txt, export_descr_unit.txt, lookup_campaign_descriptions.txt, campaign_descriptions.txt, descr_strat.txt and descr_win_conditions.txt]

    - Added the Animations Pack to the RTRPE v1.8 build instead of as an optional add-on.
    [Files changed = pack.dat, pack.idx, skeletons.dat, and skeletons.idx]

    - Added Florin's "British AOR" to the RTRPE v1.8 build instead of as an optional add-on.
    [File changed = descr_model_battle.txt, export_descr_buildings.txt, export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt, and export_descr_unit.txt]

    - Added Salvor Hardin's Revolt CTD Fix to the RTRPE v1.8 build.
    [Files changed = export_descr_buildings.txt, export_descr_buildings_enum.txt, export_buildings.txt, and descr_strat.txt]
    [Files added = #BARBARIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #BARBARIAN_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, #BARBARIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder), #CARTAGINIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #CARTAGINIAN_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, #CARTAGINIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder), #EASTERN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #EASTERN_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, #EASTERN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder), #EGYPTIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #EGYPTIAN_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, #EGYPTIAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder), #GREEK_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #GREEK_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, #GREEK_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder), #ROMAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga, #ROMAN_TOWN_SQUARE_CONSTRUCTED.tga, and #ROMAN_TOWN_SQUARE.tga (for Construction sub-folder)]

    - Added missing sprites for the "gaul_night_fighters" model in the "descr_model_battle.txt" file. These were missing from RTR Gold, which RTR Platinum was developed from.
    [Files added = gauls_gaul_night_fighters_sprite.spr, gauls_gaul_night_fighters_sprite_000.tga.dds, and gauls_gaul_night_fighters_sprite_001.tga.dds]

    - Minor editting to "descr_mercenaries.txt" file. Two mercenary pools named the same did not seem correct, and usually spaces are not allowed in game engine names. Mercenary pool names were changed as follows...
India (the second one for Bactria) changed to Bactria.
    Central Greece changed to Central_Greece.
    Greek Colonies changed to Greek_Colonies.
    [File changed = descr_mercenaries.txt]

    - Edited the regions listed in the "descr_mercenaries.txt" file. Added "Halys" to the Armenia mercenary pool. Added "Arachosia" to the Persia mercenary pool. Deleted "Pontus" from Armenia mercenary pool and left it in the Greek_Cities mercenary pool. Added "Garamantes" to the Numidia mercenary pool. Added "Hispania" to the Spain mercenary pool.
    [File changed = descr_mercenaries.txt]

    - Corrected defeat movie entry for Macedon in "descr_sm_factions.txt" file. Thanks go to Macedonn (RTR Platinum team member) for finding and reporting this error.
    [File changed = descr_sm_factions.txt]

    - Added corrected Iberian Spearmen CAS Files from Macedonn to the Data\RTR\Model_Unit folder, replacing previous files. Previous CAS files weere found by Macedonn to contain incorrect paths.
    [Files replaced = iberia_spearmen_high.cas, iberia_spearmen_low.cas, iberia_spearmen_lowest.cas, iberia_spearmen_med.cas]

Thanks for once again updating the battle AI formation.

PS: Could you guys please later on upgrade to the super dark pack 16.2, so that we can experience both great realism and the greatest battle AI yet fot RTW? By the way, what campaing AI are you guys using? And will it be upgraded to the best version available if it's possible?

Mod with great realism and max difficulty in campaing and battles = one of the greatest mods. But RTR PE already is one of the greatest mods to date.

    Keep up the excellent work.

By the way, although this game has the Super Pack 16.0, I've tried to put the 16.2 mod version through file substitution. It had worked on other versions of RTR(the last was 1.6), yet with 1.8 whenever I loaded a battle near a city or in a sally or in a siege, the game always crashed and returned to the windows window. Would this happen because you guys have put the 16.0 version already in the mod?

Other than that, the mods works great.

I believe you mean Darth Formation v16.2 from the Super Pack. You have to change (or delete) the romans_senate from the list before you add to the game.

Say...out of curiosity, does the mod (or game, maybe) allow for units to march in a line like that, with curves and all, or was that just a set up still...?

The picture is from an in-game screenshot from one of my battles against the Gauls. I was using my "Marcus Camillus' Player Formations Mod", with my "Roman Legion" using formation setting 8, column formation. I was marching my legion around the forest you see in the background, so as to approach the Gallic army that was gathered on the other side of that forest, off screen to the right. Using the column formation setting, every time I chose a new destination for the group, the units in column would start to slowly turn as in the picture. I thought it looked like an excellent background, so...
    1. I paused the game,
    2. turned off the radar map and unit cards (I use the minimal_UI setting in the preferences.txt file),
    3. started up my screenshot program (whose name I forget at the moment),
    4. moved the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen so that only a small amount showed onscreen,
    5. using the keyboard camera commands I moved the battle camera to just the right spot and angle,
    6. then unpaused the game and took the above screenshot.

The result was the image I used for this post, which Macedonn copied from my "RTR Platinum v1.8 Release" post on the RTR Forums. Not too bad and looked awesome in-game. I wonder what the Gallic army was thinking when I marched around that forest instead of through it. My legion was facing the flank of the Gallic army when it appeared from around the forest, so the AI turned it's Gallic army to face my force, but not quite fast enough for my legion, which I had quickly deployed in battle formation, hit the left flank of the Gallic army. I had sent a small force of 2 Italian cavalry led by a tribune (Roman general that was not in overall command), through the forest until they came in visual range of the Gallic army. The Gauls were kept distracted by this force harassing them, while I marched my legion to attack the flank of their army. The result was a Roman victory, with the remnants of the Gallic army retreating away from my forces. My province was saved for a few more turns from any Gallic forces raiding my lands.

Fascinating. I found your mod in the mods list but when clicking on the link got an error message. It is available somewhere else?

    Thanks in advance.
