So what do you think which music genre requires more skill from the guitarist.
I honestly have no idea, but I can't wait for Moralman to come in here and say that it's metal or something like that.
I have no idea, but I'll try and say it's either Jazz or Grindcore.
Jazz for the reason that in addition to the vast theoritical knowledge you must have, you also need the technical skill to be able to put that theory into actual sounds.
Grindcore b'cuz it's just so damn fast.
I say 'Pop'.You really require a lot of talent to scream as does Shakira...:tooth:
:hmmm:But it's a talk about technical skill it seems.Does screaming really come under it?!?!?!Don't know....well,I hate her,so opinion can be counted??.

Punk!
Of course not
In reality, probably classical guitar/classical folk. You'll actually find many modern musicians will practice older forms of guitar to improve their technical skill.
I'd also argue metal really doesn't take much skill once you've got hold of the basics. After that its just a case of getting used to scales upon scales upon scales![]()

heavy metal and spanish music are by far the most difficult to play genres for guitar

"I am against nature. I don't dig nature at all. I think nature is very unnatural. I think the truly natural things are dreams, which nature can't touch with decay." - Bob Dylan
"Faith in God means believing, absolutely, in something with no proof whatsoever. Faith in humanity means believing, absolutely, in something with a huge amount of proof to the contrary. WE are the true believers." - Joss Whedon
I think some forms of metal are among the most technically demanding genres. However, SG is probably right in saying that classical guitar is the most so.
classicall pieces are very easy to play, generally. of course there are exceptions, but the averege classical piece is much easier than the averege metal piece.

I have the opposite problem, classical seems way harder to me than metal. But, this may just be because I started out playing metal and then switched to classical. The entire approach is different, different chord structures, the way you hold your wrist, all that good stuff.
Well, that sort of stuff is bound to ask for skill, since it is from a time when composers still knew what counterpoint meant...

Classical guitar has to be, but some of those metal songs are intense in terms of skills. Guitar Hero makes them hard as well, haha.
You think Guitar Hero is hard, try playing a real guitar. I recently started playing and it's incredibly difficult. A lot of it being that there are 6 times as many strings.
Metal requires a lot of skill, 'specially the really fast stuff. I haven't listened to classical guitar, so I can't comment on it.
And Jazz? Jazz is terrible, no melody...why would you even want it to exist, much less want to learn how to play it?
Oh man you spoke of Guitar Hero!!!I love so much that game and the only prob is that I've got a Gamecube, not PS2, and now I ain't goin' to buy it, 'cuz it's too late... PS3 is coming out and there'll be lots of versions of the latest PS2 games on it, including Guitar Hero... so I won't waste money on a PS2 now!
Many people told me that guitar (in reality, doh, lol) is was much harder than Guitar Hero... but at the first time that I played Guitar Hero I got 70 or 80 percent of the music (Iggy Pop's- Search And Destroy-- I love this song bu the way).
Speaking of the real theme, I think that the most difficult ones should really be like Death Metal (try playing Children of Bodom) or some indie stuff that's out there (like Dirty Pretty Things, I say). I also haven't listened yet to classical stuff, but it may be tough, I believe you guys.
Punk is surely one of the easiest genres to play![]()
Easiest? House of the Rising Sun, totally easy.
I think classical stuff is harder, as you're constantly plucking and moving frets - rock songs etc. is more chordial, and so imo easier.
