    Default Post-Marius Formations

I'm having some issues with my formations...i just got the marian reforms and there's some weird quirks with battle formations.

I like using double line formation when going up against barbarians...problem is, whenever i make my army go into double line, spear auxilia of all units ends up taking the center of the line while my legionary eagle unit takes up the wing...i want legionary eagles in the very center and spear auxilia on the wings (like when you do double line for pre-marian units, triarii always take up the wings)

Is this the way it was meant to be? Can I change the settings somehow so legionary eagle unit will take up the middle? Yes I know I can manually move legionary eagle to the middle and the spear auxilia to the flanks but that is very tedious, and furthermore, when i issue a move command, legionary eagle will start marching to the flank and spear auxilia will start marching back to the center

    Please help!

All formations are NOT interchangeable. Remember that Formations that work for PreMarius Do not work for Post Marius. And some post marius formations do not work with Pre marius. That is the way the engine works based on the custom formations I had made for both types of fighting which were different for either timeline.

I suggest making you own ranks like I do before the battle, I never like the games positions anyway. Thats all part of being a general.

any suggestions then? which formations work best with post-marian units (and by best i mean organize your troops in a reasonable way, such as NOT putting your weakest units in the center of the line!)?

group your post marian units together and hit 'shift 5'... voila!! there u have a very nice historical checkered board formation beware that u need 10 cohorts, 3 spear, 4 missile and 3 cav for this to work fine !

however that's the basic deployment attack formation to confront even or weak enemies... if u r on the defensive and outnumbered by ur enemy I would advise u to group ur spear auxilia in shield wall 2-ranked formation on a single line (shift 1) and position them in front of ur cohorts and behind the skirmishers.

Alternatively if ur enemy is attacking u in multiple fronts, position all ur 9 cohorts on a single line formation with the first cohort (morale boosting) in the back towards the middle. position ur spear auxilia at the flanks and ur skirmishers/archers just behind ur front cohort line followed by the General... keep ur cav protected by auxilia
