Not in Apocs list, but should:

    - Modeller, free (incl. 3ds format)
    Wings 3d: http://www.wings3d.com/

    - Setup Compiler, free (easy to use exe-scripter)
    Inno Setup: http://www.innosetup.de./

@Turk, yeah Autodesk cancelled support for Gmax but TurboSquid seem to still be able to issue registrations for it - have you actually tried them?

@DaVinci, as you are going to get asked the obvious questions, I might as well do it first - will Wings 3d allow import / export of RTW models with Verc's script - or do you need someone with 3ds Max to get them into right format first?

To be honest, i never used it for RTW, as i'm not a unit or building modeller within TW. But i tested this tool a bit simply to modelling a bit architecture (as i'm an architect).
I like those ambitious software projects (it's beta but just for free), and decided to support it, and linked it into our Chiv dev forum, as i guess it can be useful to modelling units or buildings, but certainly only for people who have not a copy of 3dmax or wanna just try to learn a bit modelling the first time ... that was my main intention within chivalry for one of our devs.

Eventually you just going to try it out for your purposes, at least it can ex- and import 3ds format, and i guess you will see it soon if it works for your modding or not.

Well, maybe it shouldn't be listed, or only as beta and 3d-first-steps-learn-software (as it is free) ... or you can report, that it is fully useful for TW modding, what i actually also doubt about.

Apoc, why not adding a section of by community members created modding-tools? Or does something like that exist already in a TWC thread?

I am not sure if something like that exists - I guess I could add sections for them if they are suggested.

As you can see, this isn't supported nor complete nor really a general tools (programs) section, and it is within the Rome section.

I meant actually only by members written programs, as this topic here is only about programs (not tutorials or hardcode-limits etc.).

There is a list of RTW tools on this post in that section:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=59283
which is copy of catalogue 3, but not as up-to-date as cat3 some links are still broken.
There is short list of M2TW tools on this post in M2 tutorials section:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=92488

Wiki versions of above are at:
    http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Categor..._Modding_Tools
http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Category:RTW_Modding_Tools (RTW one is just copy of cat. 3 at moment)

In terms of an index article we are already duplicating with varying degrees of success! I'd tend to think that tools should probably be split by game rather than having an overall section in here, but interested what anyone else thinks..

It might be good idea to discuss this in this thread:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...t=87610&page=2
where Halie was after suggestions on re-organising the tools and tutorials sections.
    *******************
EDIT: One of the things on the M2 Tools list is: the Link Shell Extension, suggested by Nekus - as that is an external software program I think it might belong on this list (just don't ask me to explain it ).

I briefly checked the thread and saw no mention of our own tornnight's Names Verifier tool, which is handy for checking custom names files: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=85734

    It's very useful.

Haven't played with it yet but this one sounds like good fun:
Earth Sculptor, see: http://www.earthsculptor.com/ as recommended for making fantasy map heights.tga in this thread: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83714

@deRougemont, posts above were about whether or not to include community tools as separate section of this listing - none are included at the moment.

If anyone wants to add section for them or start new thread for them here, most of the tools (inc Tornnights) are listed in the links I gave in my previous post.

I've also written, based on this list, and editing the existing but very limited, the Useful Modding Programs-list at the Wiki.

Damn, I had some serious problems to make the abovev into a "good" sentence.

Icon3 Easy way to exchange huge files (and entire folders) over the web

GigaTribe is fun and practical new software that allows you to share specific folders on your computer with friends (or professionals!) located anywhere there is an internet connection, and best of all, it's free!

Basically, you select specific folders (and therefore files) on your computer which you want to share and then you invite your friends into your network. They can therefore download files (and even entire folders of files) onto their computer and you can do the same from the folders on their computer that they're willing to share. You can even use GigaTribe to access your computer from a remote location (work, etc...).

It's 100% safe (256-bit blowfish encryption, no spyware/adware), you can transfer huge files (no-limit) and it's easy to set up. Furthermore, all exchanges are encrypted, so your exchanges remain confidential. For more info or to download free GigaTribe, go to www.gigatribe.com. I'm open to any feedback or questions you may have, just post them here or shoot me an email at john at gigatribe dot com.

Huh. Who'd have imagined it? A spam bot that actually contributes something practical and useful. That looks pretty cool, I'll check it out.

Yes, the AI programmed into spambots today has now exceeded the RTW AI.

p.s. yes, Halie - you might well be right. I've been using that tool for probably two years; I started a long list (which listed that tool) at SCC which I believe (?) Arakorn/Apoc have added to this past year or so...I've not had time to check and compare but I'm sure arakorn or someone will - heck, it would be horrible doing modding without that tool.
