Default Member Awards Proposal - The Medals Amendment

With the medals proposal ratified with a significant majority I want to push for the addition on medals to aid in the Bi annual site awards. I know that the modding awards will need some significant debate as some would like to move away from competition and towards reward for work. Thus I have no initial proposal and would rather we thrashed out some initial ideas first.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

    We need medals for

-good 2d/3d artwork(this isn't my section so I don't know if they should go hand or hand or be separate.

    -coding(including scripting?)

    -Good team leadership?

I'm sure I'll think of more things maybe while eating or while trying to sleep

To avoid confusion, I'd like to restate that I have every intent of implementing whatever the Curia said to do in the way of instituting badges. Just I have other stuff to do first. Like, schoolwork, and hopefully making the server run less slowly.

Id suggest just one medal for modding or at least keep it minimal.

Anyone who wins something in the graphics department should have the same medal

Anyone who wins in mapping should have the same medal

Anyone who wins in codding should have the same medal.

Or something like that. Obviously my list is meant more to demonstrate my point.

But hey just my two cents, this is something Im happy to go with whatever the majority decides.

Agreed, the whole point of medals surely is to have something that is easily recognisable and worth having. If we have too many medals then we lose that as everyone gets confused what they are for.

So, while I wouldn't go as far as tBP's suggestion (and certainly not have them as yearly things) I would say that having a simple set of medals which identify (for modders) good graphic artists, good scripters, good mappers etc would be much better than having one for each individual sub-set.

(and, like Kscott, these are just examples, I don;t know enough about modding to prescribe what categories there should be).

Also, if we go down this 'general category' route then it makes it a lot easier to institute other general categories. For instance, there could be a medal handed out to people who are particularly helpful to others (which could be as a general member, a modder, a moderator/member of staff, whatever). Again it is easily recognised and worth having.

well... it depends what form these medals take i suppose.

I'd suggest a generic medal really... TWC Site Award Winner 2006, for the winner of every category.
