    Default Voice Acting / Sound

I am still working on finishing up the music but I would also like to expand to another area as well to work on the side. Battle entry speech. In other words, the inspirational speech by the general the start of every roman battle.

We need potential voice actors, and voice scripts (anyone a good writer here?). The general's speech (unless you haven't figured it out) is dependant on what traits and battle stats you are facing, but the 'stock' speeches leave a-lot to be desired. They are not nearly epic, and the vanilla speeches the guy practically speaks in monotone, hell I don't believe half the stuff the guy says. Emotionless to me...

Therefor while Roma Surrectum is the new hot commodity, we should put out a notice for voice actor applications on the main forum. Not only for the general, but also for other sound changes as well. (Like the custom legions)

If we start collecting applications now for voice actors, it will save us time in the future of doing so.

Requirements of a good voice actor would be access to a sound free environment, an excellent microphone, a better sound card would be good, samples in .WAV format for review.

Let me know, and if you think the time is right you might want to sticky this thread as 'Voice'.

It'd be great. I just hope not everyone has gone off to MT2W.

Yeah, I use teamspeak all the time, just don't have the sound recorder program. If you could log onto the teamspeak IP, then I could say it over the mic and you could record it? There is a rec function on teamspeak, and the mic coverage is great.

I don't recommend using Teamspeak to record with. It really isn't designed for that since it records and plays sound by codec.. but any other audio editor should be fine because it will record strictly pure wav input from your mic.

I am soon going to make a post calling for potential voice applicants, but first I need an email (preferably not mine!) to have them send the applications to.

I guess before I can truely get this thread going I am going to have to pick apart what triggers the general speech, event by event. I, to say the least, am not looking forward to that. Or maybe I won't... hm.... perhaps we can ignore the triggers, and just make general hair raising dramatic speeches. Why should we let triggers that say (the enemy is stronger) force the general to say "All that said they are the stronger better warriors!" perhaps he could say "Remember, if you die here, now, on this ground... *insert some epic speech here*". I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work. Unless you want speech to tell you something you already know, that you outnumber them, are stronger, or perhaps weaker. Anyone see any problems occuring from ignoring certain triggers?

By the way I still need epic speeches written. Something that makes Roma Surrectum stand out, that makes the player feel that each battle could be that legions last......

It is a chore to figure out, but I think if you dove into it, you'd find that familiarity makes it easier. As I mentioned in answer to your 'cultures' question, it took me a while to figure out what to do to get units that weren't originally in the game to say something...like identify themselves as 'cavalry', or '1st cohort'. All of this is in the 'descr_sounds_xxxx.txt' files, and once you look thru them, you'll get an understanding of where things are, and what it does. I've just never had much time to really focus on it.
The general's speeches, I'm sure, are in one of these, I've seen them somewhere.

You guys know that annoying fruity guy that comes on and says stuff like "The enemy general is dead! Press forward!" or "All Rome be praised! Roman arms have crushed the enemy!!!!"

Does anyone else hate that guy or just me? I can get rid of all that or replace it. Let me know.

    export_descr_sounds_units_battle_events.txt

Maybe we could replace it with sound effects..... like when the roman general dies instead of hearing the annoying guy said "Our general is dead, due to his own foolishness!" we hear something like a yell or something...... or perhaps instead of "The enemy general is running away!!!" we have hoofbeats or something. I don't know just an idea. It could work, since all these triggers are based on battle events... like sieges reaching walls... etc etc.

Not only could it add a little umph for battle effects, but it could also make gameplay a little more challenging. I don't know how many times that little mama's boy warned me about people sieging my walls etc etc and I wasn't paying attention and due to him I was able to counter.

Let me know what you think.

I wish that guy would show up on the battlefield. I'd have one of my Legionares lop off his head!! Annoying? More like agony!

Oh god please get rid of him!!! Hes one of the most annoying in-game voices I think ive ever heard . The most annoying part is when you win and he screams "the day is ours" and his voice is high pitched and cracks. Man hes annoying!

Lol, I have a mic and a great live recording program (my dad is a music engineer)... so I could probably pitch in with this. Only one thing... I can fluently speak English, even though it isn't my native language, but it doesn't stop me from having a slight Russian accent (mind you, not the kind of Russian accent you can hear in Hollywood "russians", I spent 4 years of my life in the States)

Lol after all the general is not supposed to sound like he is from Oxford or anything, yes?
