Default Spin off time for AI factions?

It's 223BC, I'm having hard time defending Patavium from German armies and not so hard time fighting full stacks of Gauls and Macedonians.
Senate asked me to capture Carthago, I did that but I didn't see any good Carthaginian armies. Town watches, some skirmishers, archers and even some lonely generals. Shouldn't Carthaginian armies be a little bit more powerful? Maybe I should have granted them more time to develop?

are you blitzing by any chance? it's 186 BC in my game and i haven't done anything except take sicily (i haven't touched mediolanium, patavium, etc. yet...will do so after marian reforms)....i was met with 2 full stacks of carthaginians during my invasion of sicily...i sent some spies to spain and saw that carthage had lots of full stacks roaming around over there (presumably to fight with iberian rebels) so maybe that's where they all are

rep me if you like my posts, and it's highly likely you'll get some back

how in the heck are you able to quell population growth all the way to 186BC???...i play 4tpy/ garrison script and most often have the marian reforms by roughly 220-215BC...there is no way to afford to put half the people in italy in arms while standing behind the Po river, sicily, and corsica/sardinia...i cannot seem to control growth explosions...please help...thx, hannibeau

    1) i don't use garrison script

    2) i don't build sewers or farm upgrades unless it's absolutely necessary and i tax as much as i can without inciting revolt (which means most of my cities are at very high tax rate)

I'm not blitzing (at least I hope so). I took north Italy only after Patavium revolted to rebels.
Also I left Sicily in the first couple of turns. Once I visited it back I didn't find any Carthaginian elephants. I guess they tried to fight phalanx.
It seems I can either disable fog of war to see what's going on or continue to feel sorry because of killing those Carthaginians.

I think that the war with carthage becomes much easier if you take their capital first. I invaded spain first one time, and was meeting large carthaginian armies there. They still did very little to the ranks of the legionaries.

ditto, garnier. i invaded spain fist as well. im trying be as historically accurate as possible. except perhaps with the marian reforms.

give carthage a couple of turns. theyll eventually come around and create new armies

Sounds like you are advancing a little fast perhaps? Carthage should have some nice armies to start, maybe they are at war with another faction?

I suggest playing with the 4tpy script as it spawns garrisons in each city when attacked plus it gives you twice the time in the game. ;-)

232BC is a little soon to have serveral provinces under your belt unless your playing with the script. That is only 16 turns! RTW is the time of game that is needed to be taken slowly and planned out, therefore the AI will have time to build wonderfully challenging armies.

I also suggest Keeping record of all your Battles in the kill sheet, this slows things down and gives a great feel to the game.

It's 223BC (so it's ~68th turn) and i'm playing with the script, so most of the time I have to wait for enemy to sally. But all those garrison units are easily killed by hastati.
Does Carthago have less resources than Germany? It seems for me the latter have infinite resources: all Venice is covered with heroic victory markers.

It varries really, Barbarians get bonuses that other factions dont get, like cheaper men and more of them. lol

As for Carthage you are still early in the game, they may pick up. You'll have to wait and see. I suggest you give me a copy of your saved game so I can take a look? :-)

The new Version of SPQR or the patch should I say will make Missile Units react better with Heavy armor units as right now CA messed that up a bit. I FOUND A WAY TO keep the balance of SPQR and allow archer units to fire on heavy infantry, plus increased battle times.

Ok. Here is the savegame: http://rapidshare.com/files/17841261/Massilia.rar.html
Hope you know how to unpack RAR files (at least LT does because he uses it in SPQR)

EZ! just use the real conquoring speeds as a guideline. most of the time rome would bask in its glory, and they send a surge of warfare to take out another area
also, how do you activate the script? is it default in SPQR or another application?
