    Default Killing people is cool.

Killing another person is, for lack of a better word, cool. Look around at the movies you watch, the games you play, the historical figures that many of us adore.
Throughout history the most vicious killers of mankind have been idolized and considered to be great leaders.
HISTORICALLY: Napoleon, Alexander, Caesar, Washington, Ghengis Khan, etc...
CULTURALLY: Movie action heroes, every good book has death and conflict, criminals, seriel killers, gun-fighters from the old west, etc...

Why is it that we love killing?

yes, because violence is completely natural. As carl sagan put it, if Human beings want a chance at survival of our species we must find a way to subdue our inner reptilian brain, the thing that governs aggression, with our outer brain, the thing that governs reason and all the more advanced and famliarly human traits weve come to have only relatively recently in our brains evolution.

Paraphrased of course, sagan said it much better than i just did.

Aggression comes naturally? Never heard of fight or flight? I'll assume you have because you're talking of evolution. The thing that makes our murderous heroes so cool is the fact that they can kill, and alot, with ease. Most people do not have these traits.

But perhaps they wish they did have those traits, and could kill with ease...

Its a "Back to nature" type thing, indulgence of our primal instincts to escape from reality.

I hope you didn't just assume that a movie in anyway realistically portrays violence or what it is like to see somebody die.

Funny you say that, Cassy. I witnessed alot of death a year ago and it seemed completely unreal. When people are dying they just die, unexpectedly. I never got emotional over death except when watching a movie. Characters in movies dying seem more real than when you really see it.
The actual real dead body, shooting some one, blowing them away, is completely unreal. It borders on the surreal. When you get up close to that corpse it looks completely fake, like a wax replica.

That's just my experience and that of many of my buddies.

Well, in my experience people do not 'just die'.

I havent witnessed lot of deaths, but I witnessed two. And they were real.
I havent witnessed any death caused by violence, but if you see pictures about real murders, you will notice lot of blood, and a very disturbing sight (i mean disturbing for a normal person)
In a film ppl. suffer wounds which should kill them, and film death causes not much real emotional response. Film heroes/villains kill without emotions sometimes, sometimes even merrily. Highly unrealistic, if you ask me.
The fact that you think films to be more real than reality is that you think media more real than life. Nothing can be more real than reality, that's just obvious.

Killing people are not cool, but unfortunately today most people treat it "cool" without even notice it. Many admirable historical figure, such as Caesar, "killed one million Gaulishs and slaved another one million" is treated as hero even today. Alexander the Great, caused thousands death during his time, treat as hero until today. Hannibal, killed so many Romans and others, treat as one of genius commanders. It is very clear, human "allow" reasonable kill, even it is a massive maurder.

In conclusion, I must use a phase I see long time ago (although I forget who said that); "kill one person is maurderer, kill many is hero".

How bout reading what i wrote before you go judging. I was asking 'why' it's cool to many people.

Thanks for not mentioning your experience to prove your point.

I havent witnessed lot of deaths, but I witnessed two. And they were real.

Death does not seem very real, my grandfather died, his body looked like it was made outta wax. I had emotion over his death, cause were're related.
Hell yeah there's lots of blood. The worst things the smell. But when you witness a body become a blood sausage it doesnt 'seem' real. It becomes a surreal event. You ask yourself 'did that just happen?'
In films the death of a character is more realistic. Ever watch Braveheart, Gladiator, Shindler's List, Saving Pvt. Ryan. All the deaths are quite realistic. The guys are screaming and fighting for their lives. In life, death looks fake.

Killing may be 'cool', but have any of you actually been that close to ending a life. I don't mean killing someone as a soldier or a accident like a hit and run or something, but as a ordianry civillian. I have been quite close to it.
I have defended myself before and have brought my enemy close to his death, I felt all my rage and hate urge me forward, but I could not. My own anger frightened me and I became ashamed of what I could do.

youd rather not talk about it because...its very bad eh? well guess what, we all lose people. Accept it. Grandma died of cancer, i dont think about it. My grandfather collapsed from a stroke and ticked out, i dont think about it. Just dont think to much about it. Saying I rather not talk about simply implies you havent grown up.

Dead people is quite interesting. hes right guys btw, people do look like wax. I find that the most disturbing things are the murder victims. They look very....awkward to me simply because of the environment. God, when you see dead people in real life they just sort of hit you, "this was a person" their eyes open staring at you and for the camera. Their brains all over the pavement, or decomp with their very pale skin with their white drying eyes. very freaky and nightmareish.

Oh how about the beheadings? how did you guys feel after seeing a mans head sawed off? Thats not so cool though, not even lose. Hearing it is worse than seeing it. thats a damn fact.

I watched those terror vids too. Also alot of 'homemade' war movies from front line warriors. When the victim/infidel is being beheaded and screaming, then the steak knife begins to saw into them; it seems very fake. It's hard for the mind to process i guess.
If it really is hard for the mind to process and understand death/killing/murder could this be the reason many warvets, law enforcement, gunfighters... describe combat as going in slowmotion?
