Default Which buildings should be destroyed?

I read some time ago - then i didn't have my copy of EB - that upon conquering a city one should destroy some buildings belonging to the old masters of that city. Is that correct or not? What are those buildings? May be someone could point to an old thread with relevant information?

Okey do you see a building that has a Roman numeral next to it's picture?(I, II, III, IV)You need to destroy that. Also, you need to destroy the barracks of the previous owner to build your own units.

As a Seleukid empire I have just conquered Halicarnassus (sp?) where i saw the object called "Pacification". It is 100% damaged, entirely red. The problem is that it is "Western Greek" building, but still despite its bad condition and its alien roots, 3 types of Seleukid government are available for building. So, should i just proceed with installing my government type or should I repair "Pacification" first? Or maybe i should demolish this damaged greek "Pacification" and build my own one?? Three options here to chose from, right?

Always always destroy enemy government or Pacification buildings when you conquer a province. Then build your own pacification and government building - ones for your faction. That's it. Don't ever repair an enemy government building or a pacification building built by an enemy faction.

No, only the governement building. It will be damaged to 99% whenever you take an enemy city, so it's easy to spot.

When conquering an enemy province destroy the building that is 99% damaged. Then take a look around.

First: the barracks. Look at the description for both the factional and regional barracks and see if you can train any units. Destroy the barracks if they are of no use to you, as you deny the enemy the ability to train troops right away if they retake the settlement.

Second: other civic buildings. If the settlement is to crowded or to foreign to hold right away and there is a big chance of rebellion, execute pillaging. That is to say destroy and cash in on all civic buildings as to deny a good settlement to your enemies. I usually leave the roads and the farm levels intact, as well as any walls that might be already built. If you really wanna do some damage destroy the governor residence as to create more unrest and squalor in the settlement, then take your troops out and return a couple of turns latter ready to exterminate the population...

Nothing much. But don't. Its basically a cheat. If we could we would destroy them but the game doesn't allow for that so we have to damage them. If you do repair them you are not really playing EB.

So repairing it is the same as building a new government building?

As far as the game code goes, yes. But as far as EB gameplay goes, that is cheating.

Not really. Repairing occurs in a single turn and cost only a fraction of the money of building it anew. The construction of the governement building simulates (in sofar as it's possible) the time and cost required with incorperating a new province in your realm. Also, repairing enemy governement buildings can give you type I and II governements in places where you factional would not normally be able to construct them.

It will crash when there are multiple, but it won't if there is only one that is being repaired. A crash is nearly certain if you tear down a bunch then repair the last one.

I'm playing my first EB campaign as Makedonia.

Not having been fortunate enough to have read this thread, I have a problem. Epeiros took Pella on the first turn. I took it back. I found that Pella had both a 100% damaged Type 1 Macedonian government and a 100% damaged Type 1 Epeirote government. I didn't know what to do. I experimented.

I don't recall exactly what I did. I think I first repaired the Macedonian Type I government and was pleased when it worked. Next turn, I destroyed the Epeirote damaged government and got the military pacification option. I pacified to get rid of the option and suddenly had the option to build any type of Macedonian government, despite already having a homeland government in place. I was worried about possible crashes, so I destroyed my Type I government, and got military pacification as an option again. I built a Type 1 government without pacifying. Ended up with a Type I government and the pacification option still lingering. I pacified. Next turn, the four different government build options popped up again despite my once more already having a Type I government.

Since then I have simply been ignoring the problem in the hopes it will go away. I seem to be able to build all the other usual buildings in Pella. I just have these lingering options to build a new government despite already having one. Should I be concerned about future crashes? Is there anything I can do that will leave me with a single Type I government and no options to build more. I've contemplated building a second Type I government but I am filled with fear.

    Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I'm very impressed by EB. Terrific job.

Yeah, I have had similar crazy things happen, but usually the end up causing a crash. Just destroy all of the governments when you take a town. If already had one (lost & retook the town) then tear all of them down but your own. Then end the turn, in the next turn repair your own government. Everything should work right.
