Default Adding changes for a New version of Spqr

    Hello,

I wanted to revisit SPQR:TW and add a few more things to it.

Some of the things I have planned are the following. But other Ideas or Complaints are welcome.

    1. Slight Increase in strength for Legionaries.
    2. New traits for Generals that fought MANY battles. Hidden traits for the men.
    3. Traits for Governors that become Corrupt etc. that may lend them to revolt against you.
    4. Plans for Alae Named Legions. So you would have the IX Alae etc. May go up to 60 or so for them in the outer Provinces. Lots of little work. lol
    5. Possibly a Legate system. Not sure yet.

Therse are just a few of my Ideas to start with, I am sure there are more things I will add.

Seems good. Maybe doing them by culture type instead ? As auxilia legions wouldn't fight near their home place, doing something like "Gaulic auxilia" or "briton auxila" would probably make more sense. Just an idea.

The tribune/legate/general system we talked about in the other topic would be great. Give it another try. I think it would be a great addition.

I really like this idea. I wouldnt want to hunt through my whole front line cities to find auxilia 1st cohort number 83!

It also would make it a lot easier to add the feature if there were only 20 new units instead of 160.

anyone remember if BI named Legions stat Legio or Legion? its been a while and I dont have BI loaded.

My main issue is if I go the standard way I will have 165 different Named Auxilia cohorts, which is alot. The other way is to use their built in system, which has flaws but would be easier I suppose. But I think they use Legio. Main flaw is using this method requires that I make sure the main recruitable areas for Legions are NOT included in the Auto system. Otherwise my named Legions would have 2 names. lol

Yes I WAS testing out in RTW, big Problem is a performance hit in Campaign games, I guess its do to the hardcoded script keeping tract of what named legion is what. I was suprised at the performance hit I got from it. So I dropped the idea of using their engine based version.

Something else I have done as you know 1.5 had a bug with Archers not attacking Heavy units. I have fixed this issue and also increased battle times by twice. So now Archers will fire on heavy units even in Testudo and in Rain. Heavy Rain may cause Light Archers not to fire on Very heavy units in Testudo formation. Other than that it works like before in the 1.2 patch.

Cavalry is also more effective from the rear and can inflict heavy casualties from the rear if done right. Light infantry puts a little more of a fight now also.

The BIG plus to this change is the garrison script which I can NOW use Archers and have the archers actually DO damage on the units. Also the UNITS do take damage if NOT in Testudo formation.

Remember when facing ANY archers in NUMBER, USE testudo or suffer the fate.

Very nice LT... now archers will be a good challenge and finally I'll have to use testudo ;-)

The legate system is a must... it'll add depth to our campaigns and they'll be less boring in the long run :-)

As for increasing Legionaries strenght I think it'd be too easy and they r well balanced at the moment...

excuse my ignorance of ancient Rome, but what do you mean by alae and legates?

i find it good that your compensating the legions new vulnerabilities against archers by increasing their strength, and especially like that you're adding new traits.

I think by 'alae' he means Named Auxilia cohorts where we would have 1st Auxilia cohorts carrying the legion banner/name of the Auxilia legion maybe LT u r going to include the imitation legions in this category?

By legates I think he means the tribune/legate/general system mini-mod from camilius where ur family members could progress on a civil or military career throughout their life time... They would get these titles and associated benefits (influence/command...) by serving in the army and/or governing cities... check BareBonesWars mod... there is a nice description there... here is the diagram

I need a couple beta testers for the new Balance on the units. Basically I need Infantry to Infantry fighting tested and Cavalry units against infantry tested. Everything seems to be in order but on any major change things should be tested.

Small changes, still working on the traits etc. But yes It was an easy but serious change to fix the Missile units in SPQR, because of the SPQR balancing etc I doubt the fix would work in other mods without serious rebalancing.

Battles should be twice to 3 times as long when fighting with lots of infantry. Cavalry and missile units were never good hand to hand fighters. lol

Does your above post mean that battles in this next version are going to take 2 or 3 times as long as battles in 6.2? I sure hope not... cause I fight a lot of battles and for them to take longer is going to make my campaign go a lot slower... since I dont have unlimited time to play.

you know what would be cool, if after you take rome and became imperial - that certain generals had an ancillary and trait stating commander of the Armies of the North, East, West, or South, General of the (NAMED) Legions - like in Gladiator: My Name is Maximus Decimus Meridius commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions,,,,if it were possible
