    Forum Etiquette

This simply means the manners and expectations of all members of the forum. Generally it is a good idea to:

Use proper grammar and spelling, refraining from internet talk ('u', 'ur', 'b4', 'l8r', etc) as much as possible. Using proper grammar and spelling raises the respect you recieve from other people, though one can still regain respect if you user internet talk. It's generally easier for people if you type well. Remember, this is a forum and you don't need to rush to type messages. Slow down, relax and take your own time. Ofcourse, if you English is not your first language, then mistakes are to be expected and we don't mind them, so long as you try.

Use constructive critisism whenever you are voicing your opinion over something. Look at it from the other person's point of view, if someone tells you that you're "a stupit n00b" then that's not very nice, is it? Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated, with respect, kindness and humilaty. If you do this, then you'll see that people will return this to you.

Take any constructive critisism as that: constructive critisism. Unless someone flames you (in which case send a moderator a PM telling them about that) then don't take any critism, even if less than positive, personally. Generally, if we critise you, it's to help you become a better forummer.

Things that you should not do:

Flame people. This is when you deliberatly insult someone by calling them names and the like. This is unacceptable in this forum and may result in the moderators taking action against you. No matter how annoyed you are with someone, you shouldn't flame them. Though it is understandable, as we're all humans, that occassionally emotions will get the better of you. Nevertheless, do try to prevent this forum happing.

Troll. You might be wondering what on earth a troll is. Well, a troll is someone who posts messages and threads about contraversial subjects in order to provoke people to raise up against them and also for attention. An example of this is the forummer Glory, who had racist pictures in his avatar and signature. If someone trolls, just ignore them while the mod sorts them out.

Spam. This one is one of the most common 'offenses' on all forums. This involves posting redundant messages in order to increase one's post count. For example, responding to a topic with just 'lol' or a single smiley (i.e
: or other similar things. Spamming will also result in the mods taking action, maybe resetting your post count back to zero or banning you, as the case may be. Don't worry, none of this will happen just so long as you make sure that when you make a thread or post, it contributes.

    Rankings

There are two types of ranks at TWC: ones with power, and ones without. The ranks without power are the title you have under your screen-name, whether it's barbarian, citizen, senator or centurian. These increase with the number of posts you make but do not hold any power or meaning besides being something for fun.

The ranks with power, however, are different. You can instantly tell if someone has power by the presence of an icon on the right of their name. These ranks are: Civitate, Urbanis Legio, Quaestor, Praetors, Consul and Imperator.

Civitates are the most common and have little power, but what power they have is pretty important. They can vote on various issues in the Curia and use their numbers to sway the result. Civitates can be nominated by anyone who's at least a civitate, but only the the staff members can vote on whether someone will become a civitate or not.

Urbanis Legii are the front line moderators of TWC, they will moderate a number of fora and will be responsible for closing, reopening, moving or splitting threads as well as editing posts or warning/suspending members.

Quaestors are the lowest ranking staff members but are in charge of moderating a large number of fora. As moderators, they have the power to close, reopen, move, merge or split threads as well as edit or delete posts and warn/suspend/ban members.

Praetors are the next ranking staff members and have the full powers of moderators, slightly above the Quaestors'. They moderate all forums and make sure everything goes smoothly, though individual Praetors also have special responsibilty in particular fora.

Consuls are the highest ranking staff members in the site (joint with Imperators) and there are only ever two of them. These fine people have great power over the fora and are capable of doing really awesome stuff. Just ask Siblez some time! :p

Imperator, though lacking a fancy roman shielf, make sure the site's up and alive so as to be used by all the many fora here. They have control over the actual site itself, as does one of the Consuls.

    Technical Help

This section is to help you on the technical side of the forum.

Signatures: These are small things attached to the end of your posts (so long as you enable it) and can contain either text or a picture (of no bigger than 300 by 100 pixels). To make one, just go to 'My Control Panel', 'Edit Signature' under the 'personal profile' collum and in the box, type in what you want your signature to contain. If you want a picture in your sig, then all you need to type in is:

    [I.MG]*picture URL here*[/I.MG]

But without the fullstops in ofcourse. The picture URL can be obtained simply by right clicking on the picture and copying and pasting the link. Easy as pie!

Avatars: These are small pictures that display next to your name in all your posts and are very similiar to signatures in how you get one. Simply go to 'Edit Avatar Settings' under 'personal profile' in 'My Control Panel' and either type in the link of picture, select a picture from your computer to upload and use or select one from the TWC gallery. The max size of avatars is only 64x64 pixels and any pictures bigger than that will be scaled down in size.

PMs: No, not Prime Ministers! :p PMs are Private Messages and are a quick, convinient and private way to get into contact with any member of the forum. To send one, simply click on the 'PM ME' button below a person's post. Then just type in the subject and the message body, click send and he'll recieve it as soon as he's next on! If you recieve a PM, you'll first of all recieve an e-mail telling you have, then when you refresh a page a TWC, a box will pop-up telling you that you have a new PM. Simply click on ok to be sent to your inbox and read it now!

Now, I think you know enough now to become a good forummer. May you go forth, live long and prosper! Good luck and, most of all, have a great time here!

    Ogre's.net Rules!

    Member Conduct

You agree that you will not use this service to perform the following actions:

    Offensive Posting
Posts of a patently offensive nature are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
Using vulgar, profane, or sexually explicit language
Using race, religion, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, handicap, nationality, or gender as a means of insult
Using sexual preference terms as a term of insult in any way, shape, or form
Using threatening, harassing, defamatory, hate-speech, or libelous language
Posting or requesting links to or material from pornographic, obscene, or hate-speech web sites
Posting links to web sites with potentially offensive content without a clear warning
Descriptions or details about any sexual act or sexual organs

    Censor Bypassing
The Ogre's Network message boards are programmed with a list of words that are considered vulgar under any context, and these words are not allowed to be posted. Attempting to bypass the censor by misspelling, inserting spaces or symbols, transposing letters, using look-alike symbols, or any other method is not allowed. The only acceptable method of posting one of these vulgar words is to completely obscure it, making it impossible to determine what the word is without context. Additionally, certain words are prohibited from being used in topic titles and user information pages; bypassing the censor to post those words where they are restricted is also disallowed.
For example, if "gris" is a banned word:
Not allowed: g-r-i-s, gr*s, g***, 9|-1$, girs, gryeeeas, grizznizz, **** (rhymes with "bris")
    Allowed: ****, ****ed, ****ing, g'ed, g-word

    Flaming (Insulting Other Users)
Posts clearly insulting other board members, individually or as a group, directly or indirectly, are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
Name-calling ("You're an idiot", "You moron")
    Direct insults ("Screw you")
    Offensive orders ("Go kill yourself")
Insinuations ("Are you stupid or something?") or insults towards family ("Your mom...")

    Trolling (Inciting Flames)
Posts intended solely to annoy and/or offend other posters by going against the clear nature of a board or topic are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
Provoking other users to respond with flames
Provoking fans of a particular system or game, especially on boards dedicated to that system or game
    Making misleading topic titles
    Asking obviously useless questions
    Posting false information as fact

    Illegal Activities
Posts that violate or incite others to violate the law are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, asking for or providing, in any way, shape, or form:
Illegal copies of copyrighted software (ROMs, Warez)
Methods of circumventing copyright protection (Cracks, CD Keys, mod chips)
Illegal copies of copyrighted music (MP3s), movies, videos, or any other type of media
Methods of cheating in online games

    Spamming
Posts that clearly advertise a service or product are not allowed, unless the forum provides an "advertising" board. This includes, but is not limited to:
Unsolicited commercial or personal web site advertisements
    For-Sale/For-Trade/For-Auction/Wanted notices
"Make Money Fast" scams, chain letters, and pyramid schemes
Advertising for another message board (even other Ogre's Network boards)
Users are allowed to include a web site address in a signature, request comments on their personal site in a social setting, or providing only once an interesting or relevant link to another site.

    Off-Topic Posting
The main purpose of the Ogre's Network Message Boards is to provide discussion forums for various video and computer games and their systems. Topicality is expected and will be enforced on all boards, so take the extra time to post on the proper board.

    Disruptive Posting
Posts that disrupt the message boards for other users, intentional or not, are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited, to:
Message posts or topic titles that force browsers to scroll horizontally
    Large blank or content-free posts
Bumping old or "dead" topics without a reasonable cause
Posting multiple identical or near-identical messages or topics, including "fad" topics
Topic titles or posts consisting of all or mostly capital letters (Images cannot be larger than 600 pixels wide).
Intentionally hard-to-read posts (i.e. using all, mostly, or alternating capital letters; using no spaces, capital letters, or punctuation; using large amounts of "1337 speak", et cetera)
Post counting (i.e. "First", "100th Post")

    Flooding, Invading, and Board Wars
Users will be immediately banned (along with any associated accounts) for:
Flooding a board with multiple disruptive topics or posts
Invading another board (flooding a board as a group with multiple topics or posts)
Instigating, participating in, or retaliating in an invasion of a Ogre's Network message board or any other online service
Announcing or inciting a "war" or any conflict with the regular members of another board

    Impersonation
Users will be immediately banned (along with any associated accounts) for impersonating other boards users by creating and/or using a message board account with a name clearly intended to impersonate, mock, or antagonize another user, or otherwise falsely claiming to be another message board member.

    Harassment/Stalking/Privacy
Continual harassing behavior directed towards a certain individual or group with the intent of an creating an intimidating, offensive, or hostile environment on the boards, with or without use of explicit or implicit threats is strictly prohibited. Posting private information without permission is also prohibited. Requesting someone's age is also prohibbited, unless it's done by the board administration/staff.

    Unauthorized Access
Accessing or attempting to access any Ogre's Network user account not belonging to the user in question without permission is prohibited. Accessing another user's account in this manner is grounds for immediate loss of all known accounts.

    Bugs and Exploits
Using exploits or tricks in the Ogre's Network code to gain privileges, access, or abilities not clearly intended by the board design is prohibited. While you are more than welcome to try and find any exploits away from the public eye, making them public or using them for personal benefit is grounds for immediate loss of all known accounts.

    Usernames, Profiles, and Forms
Violating any of the above rules with a username or any part of the user profile (signature, quote, e-mail, IM) is considered a severe violation.

    Signature Images
If you use an image in your signature, please keep it within 468x100 pixels. Most image editors will tell you how large the image is, in terms of pixels.

    Other
Any other activity that is clearly detrimental to the flow of conversation and normal activities of the boards and its users may also be deleted.

    Terms Violations

Topics and message posts that violate the TOS will be deleted from the boards, and additional penalties may be applied at the moderator's discretion. Re-posting deleted violations (yours or those of others) is also considered a violation.

Messages and topics may be removed at any time and for any reason at the sole discretion of Ogre's Network and its designated moderators. User accounts may be warned, suspended, or revoked at any time and for any reason at the sole discretion of Ogre's Network and its designated moderators. All determinations of what is "acceptable" and "unacceptable" content will be determined solely by Ogre's Network and whoever it designates as moderators. You agree that the decision of the moderators and administrators is final, and you may not legally contest their rulings.

Intentional, repeated, or severe violations are cause for the banning of your account, all use of the boards from your IP address or your entire ISP, and Ogre's Network contacting your ISP or other relevant parties concerning your activities.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.
