    Conspiracy theories

on the radio the other day was a feature about conspiracy theories namely 9/11 alternate theories. A structural engineer made a lot of sense as he was describing how the twin towers fell as if by a controlled explosion, further that the explosions came from inside the building in the likeness of explosive charges. Apparently no air crash investigation was carried out at the pentagon as is legally required and the planes weren't listed or something like that.
But i don't want to dwell on this as i don't think that this conspiracy sounded right, i can imagine something more orchestrated along the lines that it was 'allowed to happen' that at least sounds plausible. Another guy also made some sense with another theory, right up until he said that rather than being an FBI & industrial giants cover up beyond the government, it was all about a race of super humans whom lived beneath the planet surface .

I think we can do better than that eh!
Here's some crazy theories... [not to be taken seriously!]

    theory 1, the artificial universe.
the universe is stitched together according to our perception of it! In ancient Greece there really were gods, mythological creatures and monsters, the earth was flat and stood on a giant tortoise on an elephants back, also the stars were pinholes into the heavens upon a disk, that is how reality was for the ancients! In modern times when the first person looked into a microscope the universe took on a new shape to fit the new view of it, when we looked to the stars they gained distance as if it is all being knitted together as our understanding changes. When we went to the moon, we got as far as the upper stratosphere then the rocket popped up onto the orb surface that we really exist within, then so as to not frighten the public the us made a film about the lunar landing – unfortunately they forgot to add stars to the pictures and the flag blew in the wind!

    Theory 2, the perceptive universe
every single thing we think of are not our own thoughts! Ever wondered where your thoughts come from? They are not really snot and electricity are they, no, we are simply 'autotrons' or receptacles to the thought world, we are the bodies and brains [organic computers] built to perform the actions required of an alien storyteller! This is why we all think there is some reason for our existence and a meaning to life. We do have some of our own thoughts but these are strictly regulated by the inputs arriving through the aethers. Of course this chap is not an alien in the normal sense as there are no other planets because there is not an actual universe out there, we just think there is!

Theory 3, there once was a real world.
Once upon a time there was a real universe where such beings as the storyteller [above] lived. After a given point in evolution, the beings in which inhabited that universe learned how to make technologies which were so advanced that reality became obsolete! Imagine if we could do what we do graphically on the big screen, but in 3D with real objects – there would be literally no limits to how we could shape reality. Once these beings had this capability they simply became literally immortal and reshaped their existence according to their wishes. this place still exists... it is what we refer to as heaven! We may get glimpses of it and think it is for us, but the 'aliens' have no intention whatsoever of sharing it with mealy animals like us, and besides we are simply their toys!

Theory 4, a world beyond worlds.
What the above manipulative beings don't realise is that they too are all part of an elaborate scheme! Somewhere within a cave in the Chinese mountains, lives an old hermit whom has such a powerful mind that via his meditations he has learned of all these goings on. He has astrally travelled back to the dawn of time – well the dawn of the aliens manufactured time – and possessed the mind of the 'originator' whom he makes do his will.

I wont go on too much...

so what do you think of conspiracy theories? Does bush even need to cover up what he does? If he wanted to go to war he just would, as he may well do so with Iran soon.

Got any theories of your own?

That just caused my brain to melt down.

The lesson is... don't waste your life on those unanswerable questions... because you have questions in life that are answerable.. and your life is just streaming away... as you sit and think about things that are truly impossible to know.

Ha ha, as long as you enjoyed it . Best thing is to keep an open mind yet also to mock conspiracy theories, i find there is often great wisdom in mockery.

Sure some things are unanswerable i just enjoy those kind of things and occasionally we see a little flicker of light emanating from the cave entrance.

Interesting points. I too have thought about the universe in such a context. Your first theory about the artificial universe is pretty much exactly the same as my variation. I wondered whether it was possible for our universe to be a purely observer based one. One based off of our own view of life and our world, different for each individual observer. I actually remember a thread about the observer and it touched on this very subject... I think that was your thread as well.

I also have come to similar conclusion on your third theory about the perceptive universe. Sometimes I'll go into thinking spells and sit in one place for hours, just thinking about things. I do this mainly when I'm driving or when I'm at work. One time I was sitting around at the front desk (my job), waiting for someone to check-in and I was struck by a bit of doubt. I doubted the reality of our world and of my own thoughts. I felt sceptical about the origin of my thoughts and perceptions. I didn't quite come to the conclusion that there may be extraterrestrial beings out there dominating our thoughts to fit their purpose, but I did wonder whether my thoughts were actually mine or if they were coming from another uncomprehendable source.

I often like to think about impossibilities, as it helps me remember the impossible and the possibilities in the impossible.

the alternative universe thing sounds exactly like that old boyhood question "Does the world disappear when I close my eyes?". The answer is no though...

or, "if I turn my back on this wall, does it still exist?". or the much more ancient "if a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around to hear it, will it make a sound?"

    2. If a statement is false then it is not true.
    3. No statement exists such that it is neither true nor false.

    Turtle, hi

yes that was my thread about the observer although i meant that one more seriously. Perhaps a more reasonable theory would be that it is not as drastic as our thoughts being not our own or directly controlled, but that there are forces at work influencing them. Often i sit in group situations and watch how the discorse takes place, how it is like thought seam to jump from person to person as if there is a third party. just earlier today at my philosophy group we noticed this, as on two occasions within half hours discorse two people thought of the exact same thing concerning an issue, they both laughed. How many times do you see that! As an experiment try watching how the conversations flow in group situations, watch how sometimes it is like we are being sprinkled with ideas and one person may think the exact opposite of another or indeed the same. It works especially well when specific philosophical meanings and quotes are being discussed, it is as if someone out there enjoys such discorse or maybe by focusing on specifics then it all becomes clearer as it simplifies the flow and minimises the tangents!
I don't think 'it' is tyrannical in any way or even if there is an 'it', i think that it is simply that our minds are not confined to this box we call the brain, they interact with one another and also with the universal mind which acts like a mirror and a light bulb above ones head lol.

Nothing is impossible, ha literally 'nothing' is not possible to arrive at as there is always something even if just that which is viewing it.

    Rzzza,
You are quite right, of course the world is still there even if humanity entire disappeared tomorrow, existence would remain so.

    Felix,
nice one! no way am i tackling the liar paradox, :hmmm:

    Does this contradict it...
Space is space – this is neither true nor false, it is true because a space is a space, but false because you cannot have an absolute space, there would always be something in it bordering it or observing it in some way. So zero cannot equal itself? Neither can one as if you have one thing then there is something next to it or around it or to which it belongs.

    Or this...

very interesting... I believe that some of that things that you say are real... but if the reality is only one dream?

read deeper? most of these are just play on words, semantics. Its toying with the idea that words only have one set meaning, when the reality is that words are just abstract ideas. Not set in one definition.

Imposable, if reality was really dictated by the majority perception then how would there have been discoveries contrary to that opinion? How could have Columbus ran into the Americas when the majority perception was that he would either fall of the Earth or hit Asia. What evidence could have Galileo collected evidence for his findings if the common perception and therefore reality was that here was no evidence there for him to find?

'it is being stitched together' !!! i.e. something is making it - rolling it out before us then changing it as our worldviews and suspitions etc grow.

i dont really believe that theory y'know
