    Default Correct Roman Legion?

What would be a correct Roman legion in century numbers? is there a certain ratio between Legionaries and Auxillias?

Currently this is the Legion (Full stack) that i field:

    5 x Legionary first cohorts @ 240 men
    5 x Auxillia Infantry @ 180 men
    6 x Archer Auxillia @ 160 men
    4 x Legionary Cav @ 108

These numbers do not include officers. I was thinking while looking at the Legion that i had too many legionaries compared to Auxillia Infantry.

I have tried researching this, but only came up with conflicting results/incomplete information.

This may cost a hell of a lot, but there is nothing in the game that can withstand a legion such as this this is my instrument for conquering the most well defended of enemy strongholds...

So are there any good figures out there?!? I would love to get it looking right. I thought of putting the Auxillia Infantry @ 240 men, but this would SERIOUSLY unbalance the game (More so then already!)

    Any responses would be appreciated!

Lt's Legions (from the SPQR House rules) seem about right to me. As a rough guide you want only one 1st cohort, and about half of your legion made up of auxillaries (that includes spearmen, skirmishers, archers, and cavalry).
    1. Build Premarius Legions like so: 5 Hastatii, 5 Princepes, 3 Triarii, 2 Velites, 2 Missile units, 2 cavalry units, 1 General
    2. Build PostMarius Legions like so: 1 1st Cohort, 9 Imperial Cohorts, 2 Javelinmen, 2 Archers, 2 Cavalry, 1 General, Allowing for 2-3 Auxillia Spearmen
Having six units of archers is definitely making things too easy on yourself, and four units of cavalry also makes things pretty easy.

Yeah, I guess it depends on whether you're going for historical accuracy, or brutal effectiveness.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militar...Roman_Republic

    Republican Legion: (4500 men)
    Hastatii (1200)
    Principes (1200)
    Triarii (600)
    Velites (1200)
    Equites (300)

    Marian Legion: (ca. 4800 men)
10 cohorts (each with 6 centuries of 80 men - first cohort had only 5 centuries but with 160 men each)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militar...e_Roman_empire

Imperial Legion: (ca. 6000 men) + similar number of auxiliary troops
    1 Contubernium (8 Men)
    10 Contubernia - 1 Century (80 Men)
    2 Centuries - 1 Maniple (160 Men)
    6 Centuries - 1 Cohort (480 Men)
    10 Cohorts + 120 Horsemen - 1 Legion (5240 Men)

    1 Legion = 9 normal cohorts (9 x 480 Men) + 1 "First Cohort" of 5 centuries (but each century at the strength of a maniple, so 5 x 160 Men) + 120 Horsemen = 5240 Men
Together with non-combatants attached to the army, a legion would count around 6000 men.
