The month of February is Black history month, in which we recognize the great black leaders in US history and we take pride in their achievements. Which is all perfectly fine with me. Indeed, the blacks of this country have much to be proud of. They stood up for their rights in the face of oppression and are still overcoming the horrible affects of slavery. My problem is that if whites in the US would create a "white history month" I wouldn't doubt for a second that there would be a huge backlash. If whites created "WET" (white entertainment television) it would be the same thing. What do you think of all this?

yup they might not have gotten their 3 acres and mule, but damn if the civil rights movement hasnt worked in changing the political atmosphere. being that, double standards are everywhere.

Supporters of Black History Month would argue that White History is taught for the other eleven months of the year. I don't agree with them, but that's their argument.

"WET" sounds like a porn channel. There was an attempt to create a European culture channel or something like that, but then Duke started supporting them. When you get a lunatic like him supporting your cause, most rational, reasonable supporters will jump ship.

I bet no one would watch it cause it would suck, I just have a picture in my mind of Little House on the Prairie running 24/7. While I don't agree with the "all months are white history month" argument that is frequently made I think it applies to this example. I think many channels can be considered "white entertainment channels", they're just called differently. What I mean is that many channels try to build their programming to attract the largest audience, white people. But yeah there is defiantly a double standard in the US as to who can say what and do what and who can't. And it applies to more then just white - black relations.

Well the double standard is kind of fair. I mean there is a hell of a lot of discrimination still going on. My friends dad did a California Roll at a stop sign(where you roll past the line) and got pulled over. He was on his way to the bank and had 2,000 bucks in his pants. The cop asked him if he was on his way to a drug deal. Then the cops found out that he had a 10 year old speeding ticket that he had not gone to court for(but had paid off and got cleared). The cops then proceeded to arrest him and take him to jail.

His only crime was a DWB

When I heard this story I was like damn, it is hard being black.

I'm not at all saying it's easy to be black (though it depends where you live). But that doesn't justify the double standards.

It's not double standards. Discrimination has been plaguing black people for hundreds of years just because of their skin. Now black people are still recovering from it and are on their way to full recovery. I mean, just look at what Europeans did to Africa. They screwed the whole continent, not one nation, but a freaking continent.

Yeah I've heard and seen a lot of stuff like that. Another thing is that Black workers still make less then their white counterparts with comparable jobs and qualifications. I'm all for equality but the whole PC movement just annoys me. If we want equality then we need to stop preaching it and start practicing it.

well the truth is that a black or latin man driving a car can be considered a suspicious vehicle.....cant blame the whites though its true that the minorites do the most drug dealing........

If "black history month" was something only "black power" and other extremist groups were pushing for then not many other people would support it.
But since it's pushed by different groups, most of them not at all racist, it gets associated with multiculturalism and it suddenly becomes a lot more acceptable.

"White history month" isn't something many whites are interested in, except for a few racists and neo-Nazi's.
So it's going to be very hard to sell it.
But once you get enough "normal" whites supporting it I'm sure it would be accepted by the rest of the community.

my brother's friend (white person) was dragged inside an isolated room and beaten by security guards (who were white). Yet he had done nothing.

The problem is that even though "separate but equal" is no longer legal it is still very much part of the American culture.

The whites and blacks do not mix freely because there still exists some tension. And this tension exists because the blacks still feel like second hand citizens and the whites feel guilty because the blacks feel like second hand citizens.

Christmas, Independence day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving are celebrations of whiteness and it's achievements. When Black History Month is declared a national holiday then we can speak about equality.

When a group of whites beats up a black person it doesn't automatically mean it has anything to do with race.
"Hate crime" should only be called if there is proof that the motivation was racist.

There is somewhat of a double standard though...only black people can really make fun of black people...A white person would never be able to get away with organizing "The Niggar Family" skit by Dave Chappelle.

"Hate crime" should only be called if there is proof that the motivation was racist.

Since the people who like to scream racism have a bias against whites, black-on-white hate crimes are never prosecuted as such.
For instance the Duke rape case, when accusations first came out against the Lacrosse players, there was talk of 'privileged racist white men' everywhere, but when it was learned that the story was fabricated to take advantage of mass racist hysteria(a modern day reverse-To Kill A Mockingbird) everyone falls silent.

Here in America there is a widespread idea that only white people are capable of being racist and that minorities hating whites is understandable(even justifiable) in a historical sense.(i'm dead serious)
This is where the term 'reverse-racism' comes from, implying that 'default' racism is white>nonwhite and that 'reverse-racism' is an exception to the rule that racism=white=evil.
