using the pope??

I was sitting here theorieising about medieval 2 when i thought could u possibly play a faction such as HRE and capture enough settlements around to give all to the pope so that the only way someone would be able to attack you would have to be going through the pope of course that would mean you wouldn't get very far either so another way you could leave a small gap and just send all your armies out through making it alot harder for anyone to attack you????:hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

That idea works I`ve seen this try it it should work if you are in the good will of the Papal state

yes its working. im currently playing with the danes and ive conquered almost whole europe but then those byzantines attacked me from the south then i gave those provinces to the pope and now theres this huge war going between those two.

i wasthinking more like totally surrouded by the pope i was also wondering if you play france or spain or even portugal could you block off the middle between france and spain and then concentrate you forces on one side

If you do so be sure to keep good relations with him cause the Papal state can also attack and by giving him all thoses provinces they can be strong enough to kill you in a whisper. SO basicly don`t piss him off give him tributs and don`t ever get excommunated.

As England, I sealed off the approaches to the East (HRE) by giving the Papacy all the provinces going from Hamburg to Genoa. Now I can have fun reducing the heretical Spanish to dust.

It seems almost impossible to get a vassal and even when u do u have usually reduced them to one settlement and at that time it become more tempting just to wipe them away

I dont know about the Papal state but I`ve already put 4 factions has my vassasl with Hungray with no problem at all reduce them to 1 or 2 regions blocade their economy, have 1 army near each of their 2 regions then ask them to become so. Maybe they will ask you for money but it can be done easily

i don't have enough money to be hiring a fleet to blockade their port, to have a spare army wandering around nearby and then to actually give them money in the exchange

BY the way I was currently in an english campaign and the papal states declared a crusade on Riga currently a hungary settlement and the next turn it showed that the papal states had joined the crusade i thought they couldn't do that

yeah Pope gets active only when you give him a settlement, I think CA has done something with Rome so tha Pope can't actively build army/fleet. In my current campaign with the Danes they are in war with Milan. They just excommunicated them!

How the hell do you make someone a vassal!? They always say " you must think us fools, or worse!" when they have one settlement surrounded by 3 1000 troop stacks. Well my reputation being despicable might have something to do with it. Do you know how to improve your reputation? Thanks.

apparantly u just hav to keep on seiging and lifting. it takes time. offer them one of their former settlements along with heaps of money

Which sounds a lot more like ass-kissing, rather than forcing them to obey or be crushed like they should fear.

Once I was Milan and took Bern,Metz and Antwerp so It was a "wall" right thrugh the map. Then Frane and HRE started to fight and I was in the middle, so I gave thoese countries to the pope and watched France and HRE get ex-you know what.
