    Default SPQR 6.2 Questions

    hi all,

i just started my first campaign on SPQR 6.2 and i have a few questions:

    1) the senate always gives me a mission to do something right after i do it...for example, at the beginning, genua is in my hands, but the senate gives me a mission to retake genua...how can i retake it if i already have it? furthermore, after 10 turns i get a message telling me i failed the mission!

at first i thought it was just a minor screw up, but then it happened again...a german diplomat came to my general and offered peace, i accepted and also offered trading rights, which he accepted...sure enough, on the next turn, i get a senate mission telling me to get a ceasefire with the germans...what's going on? why does the senate always order me to do something after i've already done it?

    2) it's still early on in the campaign, but the gauls aren't really hitting me that hard...i've had one battle with a full stack of gauls and then the rest have been skirmishes with much smaller armies...as i remember, in 6.1 i was getting pummeled by wave after wave of full stack gallic armies from the very beginning...was this a conscious design choice or should i wait around some more (and no i am not blitzing...i haven't taken a single enemy province yet)?

    3) other than that, i love the mod...are you working on anything for M2TW lt?

rep me if you like my posts, and it's highly likely you'll get some back

The first senate mission is hardcoded in vanilla RTW and cannot be modded out... u should just ignore it 'cause u already have Genua. It won't affect the gameplay at all

What probably happened is that during the AI turn the senate issued a mission whilst u were at war with the germans and then their diplomat came along asking for a trade/peace agreement. Hence the senate mission report... I would suggest giving them a small gift of cash (100) or trading a map for the mission to turn successful

ok... what campaign difficulty r u playing at and what year r we talking about? The AI needs at least 20/30 years to build good veteran armies and it all depends on what factions it is fighting... if Gaul is fighting Carthage or Germans then that's the reason why they are avoiding u 'cause their forces r concentrated in the other war front or maybe it's just depleted due to multiple war fronts...

If u fancy multiple attacks all the time than play Hard or Very Hard but be advised that u r gonna have a very difficult campaign ahead when u meet far-fledged factions, ie. Egypt, Armenia... SPQR becomes more difficult as the years go by and remember u need 155 provinces to win the game. I personally play on Hard

So we all love SPQR... it's the most challenging MOD for RTW if we play correctly and with the garrison script activated every time I think LT is waiting for more CA patches for M2TW before he thinks of any modification, if any at all

Personally I gradually coming back to SPQR 'cause M2TW is too passive in the campaign and battle mode that's playing with LTC 2.1 + UAI 1.3 + DarthFormations 4.0... all combined together

Enjoy SPQR and come back here to ask more questions... we r here to help

it's a shame M2TW isn't more of a challenge...fortunately my computer barely meets minimum system reqs so i'm not even thinking about playing it yet

as for SPQR, yeah i blitzed during my v6.1 campaign, and it got very boring very fast...i'm trying to play as historically as possible this time...i've been building up my cities in italy, haven't taken a single gallic province yet...i've conquered all of sicily and plan on building up for a few more years before taking on carthage

btw, can you recruit principe and triarii from provinces with imitation legionary shields? also, marian reforms happen only after you build an imperial palace in italy?

No, u can only build imitation legionary and auxilia units after marian reforms on regions denoted by that imitation shield... principe and triarii can only be recruited in regions with the red legion shield. Hastatii/auxilia are recruited in any province at any time... Therefore u need to strategically plan ur invasions or u'll end up fighting veteran heavy swordmen/fanatics/spartans with puny hastatii/auxilia and slingers

Marian reforms take place when u build a palace in any mainland Italian city up to the Alps and any city in Sicilly as well... I think Sardinia is also included :hmmm: Alternatively u can conquer one of these cities from an enemy which has already built up the palace in them, ie. Carthage... the reforms will happen at the end of the turn

also a kind of strange thing...is it completely random as to whether your children are male or female, or do you get lots of females if most of your family is male, because so far, i have had only one male child...the rest are all female

This is completely random and every campaign u start u'll have different combination od children... I gues u need to protect that spoiled male child of urs 'till he marries and has children otherwise give power to the women of ur family

Hi, i'n currently playing SPQR 6.2, and i badly wish to play as the Roman Senate. However, wehn playing (as the Gauls) i have managed to capture all of the provinces including Rome, however i shows that i've only captured 154 provinces, as oppossed to the 155 need in order to win the game, and allow you to play as the senate. When i use the cheat to reveal the whole map, there appears to be an island (possible Iceland?) in the North West corner which is completly innacessisble. How can I play as SPQR?

You cannot play as SPQR in campign mode because the purpose is to overthrow the senate/republic and become an empire/emperor...or am i wrong?

Off topic people seems to finish off their campign very quickly just me being slow

don't quote me on this, but i don't think you can play as the senate, even if you win... was that possible in vanilla?

Thats impossible, as there are 166 provinces in SPQR, so if you conquered the whole map you would have won long ago. I did 155 as just under the complete map so the player would conquer the known roman lands at that time.

I dont know if this is off the topic archers shouldnt be so strong in up close combat wonder if you can change there def or hps to make them more vulnerable to cavarly and other infantry type. If you think about it archers couldnt stand there own ground without some sort of protection unit like spearmen.

Actually they dont stand a chance against Infantry, its just they dont die ASAP. lol As for Cavalry I increased it effectiveness against Archers and Missile units.

BTW Forester Archers are SPEARMEN, so cavalry charging in them is suicide.

For 6.3 right i do have that. Maybe they should be alot weaker. I never know archers in history stood their own ground except british archers when they were at war with france but thats a different story. Horsemen would pretty much turn archers into butter.

It depends on the amount of cavalry against archers also if its light or heavy cavalry, archers doesnt have their short swords for nothing...in a real battle archers wouldnt just run away from the enemey if they dont realize they are getting heavy losses....And the might of cavalry wasnt really intruduced until the medieval hit besides mongols and persian cavalry....more used for turning in the back of enemies or hunt fleeing ones...

yeah less morale would be a good idea. Their more of a support troop then a main line troop so they would have less morale.
