    Default Crusade/Jihad Armies Never Attacking

Currently there is a Jihad army at constantinople (egyptian) and both an english and german crusader army at cairo, but they both just stand there outside gates turn after turn - even though i get popups saying the jiahd is almost over, and it may be deserted abandoned etc the armies stay yet never attack.

I know one of the new features is that the AI will stack against a town before sieging it, but currently there are full stacks just waiting around forever for other armies that will never come, wasting time and resources.

I would rather see them send more resources within a certain amount of turns, abandon it, or straight out attack and lose rather than having stacks stand around for 50 years

I have seen succesful jihads/crusades of course, but in beta2 so far both jihad and crusade in the game going on concurrently are idlely leaving their stacks at the gates!

I've seen that happen once, as well. In addition, I've been seeing the AI go after rebel armies with lots of little 1 -2 unit stacks. But then they just stop and surround the rebel army and never actually attack it.

Hmm, yes I've seen the surround and wait thing too. I'll see what I can do.

perhaps they don't feel appreciated, so they don't attack

I think it the code that tries to force the AI to build a strong enough army before attacking, that is interfering.

The problem is that disabling that has big consequences.

This one is going to be a tricky one to track down.

It's not really a big problem, as far as the surrounding rebels goes. I watched the HRE do it just west of my Hungarian towns of Buda and Pesh. It was a source of some amusement to finally see the rebel army get tired of being mocked and wander off, when an opening in the HRE circle presented itself. The rebel army went to stand dejectedly by one of my border towers. This appeared to satisfy the HRE mini-stacks which promptly wandered off to annoy someone else. I felt sorry for the rebels just long enough to hire a couple units of bulgarian brigands and then I sent the poor buggers to their just reward.

I've just noticed this too - Jihad army waiting at the gates outside Cairo - to finally lay seige when the army was powerful enough! That's what I think anyway. The army had a few unit slots empty - checked later and it was stacked full.

By the way having a cracking time as the eras progress. Cannon's have just been introduced! All my guys have partial plate, and I've got some decent troops finally. But the Mongols... Oh my.. These guys are extra tough. They have conquered all of Russia, Hungary, and are well into Poland! I'll post a new thread abut it.

I also noticed this when Hungary brought a crusade army to Cairo. They had a huge full stack, and Cairo had all of about 200 men garrisoned. The Hungarians just stood outside for about 8 turns, till a French crusading army came, waiting for a couple of turns, and then took Cairo.

It may not have to do with the stack size. It probably has to do with the autocalculation strength of the stack vs that of the city. Can't be sure since there is no obvious documentation for what Frontline Strength means.
