My first campaign was Huns. Very challenging as I bodged up the initial settlements. Then the Franks in a long campaign holding onto just the initial city. Sassanids next in a very quick campaign that taught me the religious dimension. Now Celts..who are exterminating the WRE. Franks became boring, Sassinids were easy, Huns with their horse archers and cavalry and the tough economic situation I created was very enjoyable. Im on Celts now and choose them as best. Like the mix of unique troops and the extra conditions ive put around the campaign.

I had to go with the Franks; I'm a sucker for the Sword Heerban. The Saxon Hearth Troops are great too though, and their warlords make better heavy cavalry units. Regardless, they don't have Paladins.
I've enjoyed every campaign as the Franks, probably because they are one of the easiest factions to play as. Allying with the Western Roman Empire and sticking it to your barbarian neighbours is great. Of course when the 'ol Empire decides to be silly and stab you in the back, it's fun to decimate the armies they send against you, then sue for piece and negotiate a few territories off their hands. All in all, it's a very satisfying campaign for me.
The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.

Its hard too choose... I like the Franks as they were my first campaign (on BI) and they have a good roster of units, but I also like the WRE, Alemenni and the Celts. Alemenni have good axemen, fantastic archers (better than any in region) and berserker. The WRE has a very large unit roster to choose from, and the Celts have the last chariot unit (YAY) and the best berserker unit, Hounds of Culann. Their starting position is hard (one city on a small island and on on another larger island). One of their saving graces is Gallowglasses, a good unit to bse armies around.
By the way Severous, are you going to be documenting the Celt campaign? Also, what are your extra conditions you've put on to it? I find it interesting to find out what other people do to their campaigns.
Franks, you get a some tough infantry, good cavalry for barbarians. Paladins are awesome if you manage to convert to christen.
Besides whats more fun than watching people get their brain smash by flying axes!
I must second you on the brain smashing there and on the Franks, but haven't known about these Paladins....are they the same as the paladin body guard? cos I can get those and I am pagan, is is very hard to convert to Christanity?? don't you just tear down the temples and build the churches?

Goths, Celts and Saxons are fun. They have some cool looking units and good starting positions.

Yes I am documenting my Celts. Ive documented all my BI campaigns with multiple screenshots and comments. As they are elsewhere on another forum where I spend most of my time Im not sure im allowed to post a link here.
Latest position in my Celt campaign.
Both the main regions of Italy were Celt but have reverted to Roman control following comments from forum members who are following my campaign and offerring /demanding changes to objectives. All good fun.

Is there a seperate thread for your Celt Campaign? Or are you putting it together later? Are your objectives listed there? (Sorry for the many questions).
BTW, I voted Alemmenni, but I'll probobly end up changing my mind to the Celts, Franks or WRE.
It was allways going to be one of the Germanic factions for me, and the Franks just took it. I love their versatile heavy infantry, especially the Francisca heerban. Good heavy cavalry and an interesting starting position also make them great to play.
Saxons all the way! Funny story about why I like them so much.....I just installed BI for the first time, fresh out of the ox, and I went to try a different faction other than the Saxons. Apparently I clicked the wrong faction to play as, and ended up as the Saxons, and after that I just loved using them.
saxons are defiantely the bomb
hard to attack in their base, they can raid and pillage getting tons of money on coastal cities, and they have chosen axemen and hearth troops.
Strong and fierce. but have small selection of units...![]()
Sassanid ftw.
franks.
Not because of how they are in the game... but I was watching a thing about them in the history channel, their first kings were pretty hardcore dudes.![]()

Hmm....
Its a hard choice between the Celts, and the Western Roman Empire.
The Celts have: The best Berserker unit, the last Chariot unit, great medium infantry (Galloglaich), and Kerns (good Javelinmen).
The Western Romans have: Limitanei (my favorite Roman garrison unit), Plumbatarii (better than Comitatenses), Sarmatian Auxilia, Auxilia Palatinae (some of the best spearmen), and good, but expensive naval units.
Ultimately, I choose the Celts as my very favorite.
In multiplayer I played a member of a good clan.
He said that in tournaments winners score more points if they use a '2nd basket' faction. Meaning a faction not so good as '1st basket' factions.
We didnt chat much before technical problems at GameSpy shut us down. I learnt that Celts (my favourite) are '2nd basket'..and 'Goths' were a favourite of his...which I speculate means they are '1st basket' . Goths certainly seemed strong. When I used them for the first time it was the only battle I won against him(just).
So there are factions in BI multiplayer that are 'stronger' than others. Not quite the same question as 'favourite'. Any views?

looks like I'm the only sod who likes the sarmations then? I would never had thought I'd like the yellow and white colour scheme![]()
Though I do like their units plus its a good challenge trying to see off the vandals and huns, which is almost impossible, and then plundering your way across europe.
Alternatively I enjoy the Alemanni and Lombards, even through if their just a colour swap.![]()
