First I would like to say I found this tutorial very helpful. I am however stuck on a problem. I am trying to make the upgraded armor for the Venetian heavy infantry and the Venetian archers the same as the Venetian hand gunners upgraded armor. The vanilla upgraded texture for both the infantry and archers is the venetian brigandine so i thought I could just swap that out for the venetian hand gunners just renamed. however for the hand gunner textures there are more head textures and the unit looks like a puzzle piece. What am I doing wrong, or what should I be doing? Thanks for any help.

Ah alright your system is 32 based seeing that you can't install 64-bit programs. So i'm not sure why it isn't working it should, it's pretty straight forward.
Did you downloaded it from here?

yep, from the original developer page!
but i found an older version (CS2) from photoshop in my external hdd archive. i'll try it with the older version and hope that it works? so i can now finally start my more historically accurate unit roster for the teutonic order?

    thanks a lot m8

If you are going to try different versions of it on your PC then i suggest that you first uninstall the current plugin, then use CCleaner to clean the registry, restart PC and then install the plugin.
    And no problem mate.

Does anyone now, how to reverse changes, that "flatten image" make into texture files? With alfa channel gone, some parts are white and shine on the battlefield models. Its not CTD stuff, just small anoying one. Any idea how to fix this in GIMP? The PS tutorials are quite useless in the case of GIMP
My guess is, this has something to do with alfa channel, but no idea how to fix this using GIMP

Found the solution! Use GIMP 2.6.11! It already has dds and normalmap plug-ins.
After flatening the image, editing and before saving, go to:
-layer/transparency/color to alfa, give it ok in the window.
    next, go to:
    -layer/transparency/semi-flatten

When saving, ignore the info about unability to save the files with layers, just proceed with "save as" + generate mipmaps + BC3/DXT5 compression. File will be saved nontheless, and no more gaps with shining spots on your modelss' faces, necks, etc.

The two textures will be different as the underlying model is different. You will have to work on the original texture, copying elements from one to the other might be possible.

Just a quick noobish question if someone can help out; What determines the shine/reflection effect of the texture, like for example armor's? Is it the alpha channel of the texture, or normal maps? If so, how?

Thanks if someone finds time to answer.

    @Kahvipannu
The alpha channel of your normal map is the one that acts the gloss map.
And its alpha channel consists of a grey scale image of the original texture, after that lighter (brighter) it is the more glossy it gets, the darker it is less glossy or damp it gets. On this, we vary the lighting effect depending upon the texture type (boots, swords, armour, cloth, chain mail etc).

    Sorry for necro.

Saw winter_variations for unit texture pathway in detailed log. Does anybody use this feature in vanilla styled mods?

My sister, do you still recall the blue Hasan and Khalkhin-Gol?

I have only seen generic winter overlay textures in TATW REFORGED files but I don't know how they work or look in the game.

Suppose it comes handy to give skimpy dressed units something warm in winter.
Would 'winter_variations' then be this path: '...\[unit]\texture\winter_variations\file here' ?

Find example from authors of Bulat Steel from our local forum.

Here is the link and screen. Unit is from great GSandy's unit pack.

    https://imtw.ru/topic/38757-sabmod-k...st__p__1822404

And here is example of same unit with different textures for two factions. One easily could be for summer and one for winter.

Factional textures for the same unit is standard (via modelDB faction sections) unless you mean something else.

And then there are the multiple\duplicated model groups that are randomly chosen, each with their own allocated texture - like three to four sets of chest armor\cover as can be seen on the picture.

I mean that vanilla based models has low polygon count and much more simple than models that created for modern mods. And there are tons of different textures in different early mods.

In my case I'm not 2D/3D artist at all so for editing units in my project (from vanilla to Westeros style) I have to seek among existing stuff. And I find that for vanilla models just combine textures from one mod with vanilla unit model is enough because of their high compatibility (example above). So for winter equipment I only have to rename texture with furr and place it into winter subfolder. So for the very beginning one texture will be enough for many units in my en_lmail_hmail (I use baltest_unit_models from vanilla pack). I think that skilled artists can easily make winter textures for their projects.

Here is an example for barded horse. Targaryen textures set for rebels in mod that I'm working on. So I set rebels textures as winter variations for Stark (scotland)
