Ah jeez, did anyone manage to do this in GIMP? I have no idea how to save it like the OP did with that nVidia plugin. In-game, the modded unit models are invisible. The texture only appears in bits and pieces when I scroll over them.
Right... how do I save in DXT5 format and generate mipmaps with GIMP? That's the part that's confusing. Do I do it through the nVidia plugin, which I thought was only for Photoshop? Or can GIMP do it automatically? I have the .dds plug-in and I can edit the .dds files and convert them back to .texture. I don't think I'm saving them in DXT5 format or generating mipmaps, though, because the modified texture looks corrupted in-game.

Here is the link for the GIMP DDS plug in: you simply "Save As" DDS and then a little window with the options pops up. Same happens now when you open DDS files with GIMP.
hey when i try and play a battle i get
'Medieval 2 tota lwar has encountered an unspecified error and will now close'
Why is that??

'The old texture file has to be in the same directory as the dds file.'
Which is the old texture file?? cos i'm getting a bit confused. I'm having the exact problem that HELLEKIN had. I'm saving it .dds file but when i try to convert it by clicking select .dds to to texture it says 'cannot open file banner_template_copy.dds' what am i doing wrong???
Hi.
I'm trying to learn how to edit textures. I've downloaded GIMP and the DDS plugin for it, but I'm struggling with the texture-dds converter. I found and downloaded this one, along with python to run it, but when I follow the steps in the screen shots, the new dds file does not appear. Have I done something wrong? Or is this converter too old? I'm sorry if I've made some schoolboy error, but like I say I'm just learning and I hope you can help me out.
It requires python 2.6, anything newer and the script will not work.
Python 2.6
Here is a converter in EXE format, have a look if the download still exists.
Not sure if it was 2.6 I downloaded, could have been 2.7. I'm not on my main pc at the moment so I'll have to check later.
Yes it was 2.7.1, so I'll get the 2.6 version when I'm at my pc. Thanks for the tip
