    Default Native unit names

Do you think we should have native unit names in the game, or just English names?

As you know, I support a combination, so under these circumstances I'll vote no

I voted yes, with good descriptions of what the unit is. And of course peasants would be peasants, etc.

That's another thing. If you have a bunch of elaborately named units and then... "peasant archers" it looks a little shoddy.

    just my two cents

    I voted "Yes". Why?
    Diversity is something I respect.

Like we learned a lot making it...
It is a good thing, and I'm up for it.

I agree with this, I like indigenous names even if it's confusing at first, I feel like I'm learning something.

However I'm okay with partially English names or bracketed translations as well. I would have a problem with just English names though, it would be kind of a waste for all the people who spent time trying to find correct names, and it also makes the units seem horribly generic and characterless IMO (I remember how it pissed me of in BI to see just Steppe Heavy Cavalry, Axe Warband, Chosen Swordsmen etc, really shows up how few units there actually were)

I didn't vote... I'm not sure whether I agree or not. In any case, I would rather prefer having Norse names for most units, because Norsemen are the main civ, and you'll mostly play the game from their point of view (like with Romans in RTW). This is what I would like most.

I think bracketed translations is a good idea, Its less confusing and people would learn a thing or two.

Yeah. I loved comparing the unit names of the Germanic tribes in RTR to the English names also included and seeing how much of the Germanic name I guessed right. Then again, I'm heading a mod that makes everyone speak their native language, and I know some people don't like hearing or reading anything but English...

I think having bracketed names for the units is a bad idea, in the description, sure, but having it in the actual name breaks the all-encompassing nature of the game...

I agree. The unit descriptions should somehow explain what the unit name means.

But there will be 'spearmen' etc as someone recomended
Do you mean the tiny descriptions that show up in battle? Like, mouse over a unit and it says the little things like Unit name (and "unit type" in parantheses right next to the unit name), fatigue level, morale etc? I definitely agree that should be in, but it'd be silly to have some unit names in English and some in other languages. I think.

I joined the team to late to vote, but Iīm for native language names all the way. But long and good (and interesting) are needed. And letīs face it, you will know what kind of unit it is on the battlefield - They will still have classes. So I donīt see a problem with native language names. And I just like it more

I voted native unit names, it would take away from the "Dark Ages" atmosphere if everything was named in English.
