    Default GPU Question

Hey guys, little problem here. My graphics card (ATI X850 XT) seems to have a dead fan, or at least, one that acts like it. She idles at a ridiculously high 66 degrees C, and I can't play Med II or Oblivion for more than a few minutes before my PC shuts down. I can't really afford a new graphics card right now (being that I just bought a 360 and HDTV) so I'm looking at just replacing the fan. I found a good looking product on Newegg, but it's out of stock till April. Then there was this:

Is this a standalone product, or does it require some type of water cooling system? I know little to nothing about water cooling, so I just need to know, could I buy this and pop it on top of my card or will that not solve my problem?

If the answers to the above questions are no, what would you guys recommend as a solution?

Hey Beast, what's the cards make, you know, Sapphire, MSI, etc. and is it still under warranty? That may be the easiest fix and it'll still be stock. BTW, I love that VC, excellent design and a great performer....

It's just a stock Radeon, and the machine was purchased in 2005 when the X850 XT was one of the best cards you could buy, if not the best. I'm only looking for a fan here to get me through till after summer 0f 08 (leaving for school) when I can buy a new PC with Vista and a Dx10 GPU.

I'm probably going to order King Edward's suggestion once I get around to it. Any problems, it's refundable. Thanks guys.

Ed's suggestion looks good and it's a quality fan, which you'll need, as that model of VC works hard and runs hot!

Good choice, the VF900 is one of the best video card coolers available right now. If your short on cash, you can also go for a older cheaper VF700. Either way they should keep your X850XT nice and cool.

Yes it needs a water cooling setup to work which is given you financial plight isn't ideal. You should look at getting a replacement HSF, Arctic and Zalman all do VGA coolers, both are cheap and shouldn't take know more then 10 minutes to install.

Went with the VF-700. Not only is it 10x quieter than my stock fan, but 100x more efficient. Idling 30-40 and under stress about 60.
