what tacticts do you use when playn as Scotland?

I cant seem to adjust to the lack of cavalry early in the game so i make tons of archers with pikeman that i use like phalanxes in rtw so i lack mobility what should i use to gain some speed ? also i cant catch guys that flee and the border horse suck big time what to do?

Ummm... you use the border horsemen to chase people down and hit flanks? That's not a bad strategy in the early game, you know. Don't expect them to do any of the heavy lifting though.

Just thank God you dont have fight Mass horse archers...

And you cant beat english longbowmen in distance...

Or any other factions diveristy...

So you have to use your highlanders, nobles to get the job done... peasents and militia for fodder. Its will be a slow game...

Tech up your infantry as fast as you can and use your cav to hit the English archers.

Ctrl + A, stand up in real life, rightclick enemy general, scream "FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!"

I use a wall of pikemen, noble swordsmen with strongest cavalry for flanks, 4/2 units of archers, and then fill up the rest with highlander nobles.

the tactics that i most love is hold the enemy in place with phalanxes flank the with heavy cavalry from the back and instant rout

As scotland, it's easiest to win the game on the campaign map - conquer york and wales from the rebels before the english do, then take on inverness and dublin and you outproduce them... After that, the rest of the game is a cakewalk.

I've never played Scotland but I hear their special hidden unit "War Cabers" are quite devastating.

when you are scotland you are pretty much isolated from all of europe, england is the biggest problem but they are strong so build up your force and lands then invade England and so then you are closer to Europe

I listed my tactics elsewhere but here is a short version. ((I have taken 29 lands in 33 turns - but that's no real resume so suggestions may not work for others)). Always attack, attack english, french, spanish, holy roman, demark...if their city is within reach hit it.

I only upgrade castles and only for infantry upgrades, armour smiths and siege equipment. Forget archers as you will not be defending if always attacking.

Highlanders and nobles are your goal...lots and lots of highlanders. Give them lots of ladders and swarm over the walls in a plaid tide. Use siege equipment of weak forts or castles but otherwise take the gates via ladders and surround the defenders. If not attacking, hide in forests. Scots have bonuses in snow and forests.

In open battles let the enemy come to you. Hide in trees for hidden flanks if possible. Always charge to up and the right to avoid shields. Have general or merc calvary charge the general on his left, on shield side, to wipe general in initial charge.

In a pinch, to flank without fast units do a feint. Basically, collapse your center line. The enemy rushes in to pursue and then pinch them off and turn those fleeing clansmen around. If on map edge, feint along the edge to sandwich enemy along the edge.

Finally, the ultimate feint I have ever pulled off is with the general (only calv in my armies). I hid clansmen in trees, ran the general along an edge and clipped the side of the enemy masses in the rear side and ran back to my edge. The enemy saw my generals running, exposed backside and abandoned all structure to rush after him...right into the maw of a highlander/noble trap. I started outnumbered over 2 units to 1 and won a slaughter.

Summary...produce nobles, highlanders, siege and armouries. Leave minimal defenders ((can always siege it back if necessary)) and attack, sacking everything.
