    Default Medals discussion

I would think it's the same reason medals have always been used in addition to rank. Singular achievements are far easier to strive towards and help reinforce acts of glory on the field. In the forum sense, having a wealth of goals to achieve for that would be displayed under their post count would be worthy of aspiring torwards too.

Calls that it's complicated are fair and a valid criticism of the system but I believe the merits (status symbols for mod/site contributors) would be of greater worth. The main detriment of the system I think will come in it's implementation though. And to clarify, I fully support the current bill but this is a good proposal to discuss alternate systems.

You could turn down a medal if you wanted just like anything else.

Here is a vBulletin Addon to create the Award system for vBulletin v3.0.x (there is 3.5 version if we move to that):
YAAS - Yet Another Award System
    Award Listing
Example in a normal forum setting
    Member Profile

I would recommend we have rewards be smaller than the sample forum and limit only a few be shown (those with more would have a link below the medals to go to their member profile).

So yes, this is technically feasible and quite simple to use once in place.

I'm all for drawing up a bill tBP, but I we need approval from ON to install a medal script before we can even move it to a vote. If any senior staff reads this, could you please request for this. I can provide documentation about the script and it's stability. The author has been a vBulletin "hacker" since 2002 and has dozen of well-recieved scripts and this one in particular has undergone several versions and has a demostration site that shows it's effectiveness. I would also request that the honorable Pro-Curator split the medal system off of Asterix's thread as it's evolved into a seperate issue.

All that said, I've seen no reason (other than grammar related) on what's wrong with the current bill aside from aesthetic reasons.

Ogre's Net has failed to so much as upgrade the board for months. They're massively overworked, as far as I can tell, and I very much doubt Mithras will have time to implement hacks.

Screwing up the boards isn't the problem with the hack. It's the installation time, plus the fact that hacked boards are a nuisance to upgrade (all hacks must be reinstalled manually for even the slightest upgrade, if it touches any of the same files).

Is it not possible to delegate this to a senior staff member that is familiar with vBulletin? I don't have personal experience with vBulletin but with basic PHP, this is a one day affair.

That's what I feel as well, but there you have it. Not our decision.

Why was this in Hex? It's from a discussion in the Curia from nearly a year ago.
