    Default Sicilian Campaign v2.1 (VH/VH)

After downloading LTC2.1 I began a new game with Sicily. It's probably the best game I've had yet.

In my other games as Sicily, I have always expanded west to The Moors. I always feel over extended so I decided to secure the Italian penninsula first. It did not take long for Venice to invade Milan and take the city if Milan. Venice quickly became Excommunicated. During this time I grabbed Florence. I did not want Milan to get wiped out so quickly so I protected Genoa.

Milan did nothing to retake Their capital so I took it. Then moved on and took Venice itself. Was not too much trouble. Venice was left with 2 provinces. That castle east of Rome, Ragusa? and Zagrib or whatever. They continually attacked me and since I diid not want to expand anymore I asked for a Crusade against Ragusa. Soon all Catholic factions were all over Venice. Poland eventually took Ragusa(?) leaving Venice with one lone province. I moved my attention towards Bolonga.

Bologna was well garrisoned and being a good Christian I did not want open war. I sent spy after spy and assassins to get it to revolt. While doing that Milan got some courage up to retake Milan(city). Needless to say the were excommunicated for attacking me and quickly lost Genoa as well. Leaving them with Dijon as their lone province.

France and I had a Royal Wedding and became allies. Milan then became France' vassle. This alliance will turn out to be a great decision.

After failing to take bolonga after 50 years of cloak and dagger antics. The Germans attacked France and got excommunicated. I got the pope to call a crusade against Bologna. All Christian's joined but of course I took it.

At 1180 I had secured the whole Penninsula without ever starting a war. (except Rome of course)

I was in the money at this point. So while I built up my provinces, I sent spies north to watch the ongoing French/HRE war. HRE was quite large and began to wear down my French ally. I decided to fund France to regain the egde against HRE. I think I gave them 75000 denari up to now.

With the death of the Pope, HRE was welcomed back into the fold of the church. I figured the war on my northern border would decline into a stalemate. Two turns later France attacked HRE and were tossed out of the churches good graces. I stood by my ally.

This began the European world war. France and Milan against HRE, Danes, Scots and English. The Iberian factions were all weakened by Moorish domination.

I had spies all over europe and watched. Sending money to France when I deemed it was necessary. Soon Milan was in trouble so I also funded their war effort as well. They became my ally as well.

I have decided the outcome of this war without firing a single arrow. Good Stuff!!

It is now 1220 ad. Egypt is a super power. Turks and first wave of Mogols are under Egypt's boot. Byz is a dominant force. Subduing Hungry and The Steppe.

HRE is a shadow of it's former glory and France is becoming dominant in Europe. Milan remains a vassle to France keeping my borders clear. I have only just taken Tunis because I wanted another Castle. Took that by converting the Muslims to the true faith and watching them revolt. Moors declared war on me, but they are no real threat.

I must say I'm enjoying this campaign and LTC2.1! The diplomacy has come a long way from Vanilla! GrandViz excellent work! Lusted, do I need to praise you again?

indeed! the campaign stories are great. I notice a big difference between the vanilla (or other mod) campaign stories, and those of the LTC campaigns people are playing.

the LTC ones sound way more "epic" in scale. with the players understanding the long-term impact of events and trends. very cool.

Im currently having a gret time as Egypt. Its 1140 or something. I own everything up to Antoich, and have Baghdad. A Jihad was called against Constantinople and the Moors ended up taking it. I've been feeding the Turks money so that they remain my ally until i decide to attack them. I've got a Master Hasishim Guild in Antioch and i've got several 10 skill assassins running around. A Crusade was called against Jerusalem and the HRE, Hungary, Milan, Sicily and France all joined. The Sicily and Hungary crusading family member were assassinated by me so they lost their crusading armies. The HRE crusading army arrived first but was massacered outside Jerusalem. The Milan crusding is just about to assault Jerusalem, and might be in for a bit of a shock when it meets my garrison(Halberd Militia, Saracen Militia, Arab Cavalry). Once all the crusading armeis have been killed im going to attack the Turks, and wage a slow long war against them until i own all of Turkey. Then im going to expand into North Africa and finally take all of the Moors provinces so i will unite the Muslim world. Oh, and i'll also be fighting the Mongols and Timurids of course whenever they arrive.

France, I'm playing with them right now and I love my campaign. I own Rennes, Bordeaux, Dijon, Pamplona, Brudges, Acre, Gaza, Alexandria. the five starting provinces and also succesfully did 2 crusades against Antioch and Jerusalem. The mongols have arrived and pushed back 2 of ther full stacks army's that attacked Antioch.

The Mongols are a real pain and when they bring their army`s on my Antioch territory Antioch that maked 5000 florins per turn then just made 430 pre turns

Heh, just beat the hell out of the Milanese crusading army. I also assassinated a few diplomats coming to offer me ceasefires. I don't want them as im playing this campaign with no allies. Well, apart from the Turks and i've got an army marching towards their territory.

I think this mod is one of the best (read "The Best") around. There is one minor problem I've been coming across, the horrendously overpowered generals. I've got a screenie showing the damage they are capable of.

It was taken in a battle against Denmark, I was playing with russia, one charge from a 33man 1 silver chervon generals bodyguard unit.

Depends who the general unit is facing. In the epic siege of Jerusalem battle i just fought i easily took down the Milan genera with my Saracen militia.

But that was a seige, generals don't charge properly during seiges. That one charge killed and routed about 220 spear militia + 60-70 norse archers In total almost 300 men, almost 10 times the total of the charging unit. Even that lovely showcase of lamellar armoured beauties you can see on the bottom of the screen would have been hard pressed to do the same with just 1 casualty.

My next strategy is to gain sway with Portugal. Fund their endeavors and see if I can influence what happens on the Iberian Penninsula. My goal is to rid the area of all Muslim influence without getting directly involved. The Moors control 2/3 of it now. I will supply plenty of money, priests, assassins and spys to create unrest, but Portugal must do the fighting.

If this works I'll be amazed. To be continued....

I've funded a factions war too. Poland is my allie and the mongols came from the steppes. I supported Poland for about 12 000 florins per turn so that mongols don't get to be my neighbours. Right now mongols have only two provinces and haven't conquered any for about 15 turns.

How much does an AI ally actually spend of the money you give on military means and defence I wonder? I wonder what its priorities are and how well it actually uses the money to further its goals?

I often give an AI ally money, so I wonder how it uses it...

It spends quite a bit of its cash on units, i've been feeding the Turks cash in my campaign and they're building quite a few armies.

It's going to be fun crushing them.

Just so much money for them to not break the alliance. It's a nice strategy, tried it a few times as well.

Lusted, does attacking one's enemy make you one's friend? Because while I was fighting Venice, Milan etc. as Bysantium the Turks liked me more and more although we had no off. contact whatsoever.
