Default maybe these idiots should get educated

    http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchiv...protest_1.html

Do they not understand why the founding fathers wanted a separation of church and state? Don't they not know about religious persecution over the last 3000 years? Do they not believe in diversity? Do they understand how easy it is for a country to become obedient to authority with a religious reasoning?

Maybe instead of hating, they should understand....

I don't understand why nobody has expressed outrage at the fact that christians can't realise that the only reason for christians wanting to oppress atheists is cause christians have so much political power they don't want to lose it.I agree with the black guy on there.Hes absolutly right.I have the right to not say the pledge of alliegence if i want.I shouldn't have to pray in a public school.Thats what private school is for.Christians are an enigma in the sense that they say the want freedom of religion yet instead of simply saying this is what i believe like athesists they go out on missionary trips and try to corrupt everyone's minds into thinking there going to Hell.

I think the real question is why the pledge needs to include God in the first place.

Stupid Atheists... glad the Christians were never militant... oh wait.

O.M.F.G. Seriously, these people give theists a really bad name. My beloved Atheist friends of TWC, please don't believe that all of us are like that! Oh, and wtf? Stephen A. Smith debates serious issues?

What worries me most is that a bunch of Evangelical nuts are the ones who provide the public image for Christianity in the popular media. You'll often see a journalist interviewing some extremist looney, but they're less eager to interview someone like a well-educated Orthodox/Anglican/Catholic bishop (and understandably, since it's the media's job to seek out the most provocative news stories).

Oh i agree with what you write here 100%. They just go for the extremist parts of christianity. Just like they concentrate mostly with the extremist parts of the muslim world etc. Whatever sells the most.

Ever heard Thought for the Day on BBCR4? Maybe the religious leaders they use on Moral Maze and Any Questions? Perfectly level headed, if usually wrong headed on the issue du jour, be it homosexual adoption or war....

Yes, Thought for the Day being a five minute segment on Radio 4 in the morning, and the Moral Maze being a half hour segment on Radio 4 broadcast once a week on a Wednesday evening that occasionally has mainstream religious figures on its panel. Not strictly speaking the mainstream media, is it?

If you want to debate an issue like homosexual adoption, then you can open a thread on it (if you feel you have a point to prove in some way).

Watching the video - paused it on the white girl giving her view.

She said that Atheist attack Christianity more than any other religion. If you are raised a certain religion and become Atheist wouldn't you think that you'd lash out on the religion you where taught?

Ok the black girl said that Atheist have bad Public Relations and lack good marketing.

As an atheist I think that goes against Atheism. The moment atheism centralizes and gets it's own church is the moment it contradicts itself IMO.

I think the white girl is against Islam. At the end she says Europe is "FALLING" to islam.

And I agree 100% with the black guy though.

Indeed; it's strange that one can notice a fanatic by the use of a single word. It's not what you say, it's how you say it.

And I agree 100% with the black guy though.
Stephen A. Smith, people, Stephen A. Smith! Don't any of you watch ESPN?!

I think you missed my point. Whenever the BBC gets a religious person for their opinion on a serious programme, they go for moderates; I simply gave example issues where they got religious spokesmen on panels, ZD, no more. You also, notably, ignore the reference of Any Questions, a rather popular political show.

Sorry, I missed the reference to Any Questions. My mistake. However, I think that my point still stands. The majority of popular media (and let's face it, not even Any Questions can be called truly popular, although it is more popular than the Moral Maze), and by that I mean newspapers (esp. tabloids), magazines, commercial TV and so forth, will always go down the most sensationalist route possible.

Define popular media. I'd say the BBC was pretty popular, no?

Level-headed Christians stay out of trouble and hence out of the media. "We" just aren't exciting enough. So the media runs to the nearest snake-handling pedophile when they want to do a story about contemporary Christianity. Journalism has always been a slimy profession, we shouldn't expect things to have changed.

The nearest snake-handling paedophile like Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury? It was level-headed people commenting on the abolition of slavery for the Church...

Oh yes, they love to douse the church leaders with fuel and setting them alight. This I thank them for in part, yet it isn't representative of the church (not mine at least, thank God).

...All they do is report what they say. Not douse them in anything. I mean, even the Sun does that for the Archbishops, however much it attacks others.

Of course; they find the most interesting whacko that fits their personal perception of Christians and report what they say. Why try and make an ass of someone when they will willingly do it for you? Then you've successfully created the pinata that you can whack on for the next six months. That's how it works in the States anyway... If you write for a paper whose readership is anti-Christian in the first place, no one will question your bias.

Ah, that'd be the problem. Here we have an state Church (one of the most inoffensive ever. Want to hate gays? Fine! Want gays to get married and be priests? Also fine!) represented by the aforementioned Archbishop Rowan Williams; I guess our short disagreement recently was based on miscommunication. I am talking of the English model.
