Default Rome TW - won't launch on win 7

I have an older HP Pavilion which has just had a vanilla Win 7 installed. I have installed RTW from original disc (which previously worked on a now broken laptop) the install is happy but it won't launch. I am Admin on the machine - I have tried compatibility Win 98 and XP neither will run the game - anyone got any ideas - much appreciated

Do you click on the proper icon and nothing happens?
If that is the case then there was an update in 2007 which apparently shut off the program which checks your disk to see if you game is legit. I had that problem until I restored my system to right before that update and RTW works. These are the instructions I found:

    2. Reactivate the disabled driver following the Microsoft instructions

This appears to be working only in Windows 7 and 8, and Microsoft warns that there may be security issues.

In short, you need to open a command prompt with administrator rights. To do so click on start and write "cmd" in the search field. Then a window with the programme will pop up. Right click on cmd and select "Run as administrator". Allow the programme to alter your computer. When the black screen pops up type the following lines:

You should press Enter after you type each command.

I don't know if it works because I just never updated my old Vista machine (with Windows 7) installed.
