Great Job! I like you're work, i 've been working on my own danish/viking project, not as historically accurate though. I noticed you are using the druzina model, How did you remove the spike from the top of the helmet?

I guess he just overpainted the spike with alpha in the texture...but I'm not sure. Doing it this way there could be a visible hole in the helmet.

/edit: @Matherlandia: Can you make a new readme with manual instructions? Unfortunately my file comparison tool cannot read the model.db file (it always crashes when I try) so I need to know for which line I have to search.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks all bros.

That's right, I just used alpha channel for viking helmets.

Godzilla, try to find the word "viking" in your battlemodels.modeldb usig the windows notepad.

Now you have to go back and highlight from "16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80......

    to "...17 MTW2_Mace_Primary 14 fs_test_shield 0 " <=== remember the last

    space.

Now open my battlemodels.modeldb using another notepad.

Find the same lines searching for "viking" from

    "16 -0.090000004 0 0 -0.34999999 0.80......

    to "...17 MTW2_Mace_Primary 14 fs_test_shield 0 "

Copy and paste on your battlemodels.modeldb highlighted lines.

Now it should work with other mods.

Argh....this file is really messed up. What was CA thinking?

Anyway, I spotted four viking raider models in the file:

    viking_raiders
    viking_raiders_ug1
    vking_raiders_ug2
    viking_raiders_ug3

But you only changed the model and the textures for "viking_raiders" and "viking_raiders_ug1". Is this correct? What about the other two upgrades?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes you're right, I just modified the first two upgragrades so the other two are the same.

So You can take only the first two upgrades, copy and paste on the first two of the original file.

Remember that you can find all the lines in the readme.txt.

In that case u can take all the lines and substitute them for the entire block of the unit. (4 upgrades)

Beware of spaces and check that all the files are in the right place.

Nice job bro, the shields look excellent. You might want to give some variation to the color of their tunics though, or maybe have some of them not even wear the tunics, like you can see in this picture: http://www.memphismuseums.org/media/vikings%201.jpg

You are totally on the wrong trail my friend. Viking helmets where just normal helmets with no horns attached...but see here for the ultimate truth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRH2aP5fDus

Is that an aswer to my post? If so, you just prove me right. I'm ONLY talking about the shields with runes, your units look great even if I'm no specialist.
It's just those runes on the black shields. The looks good, but saying it's historicaly accurate doesnt. They look like bad movies or blackmetal clichés. That's all I'm saying!

I'm but an ignorant fool, but aren't thus runes a bit out of place? I thought runes were seen as genuine magick by "viking" people for allowing the storage and later use of knowledge ; thus, having so much on so many low level soldiers, even if good or cool looking, is a bit to much... To me, even if nice, it looks like a bad cliché and CA could have done so...
Again, I'm ignorant, but just a quick google research has show me absolutely no such shield.
And to reduce a bit my ignorance, by the game's time, Norses were christianised, but what was there relation, not to their whole pagan tradition, but just to runes and their old "alphabet"?

Hi Taneda. Sorry, that answer wasn't for you.

Vikings used many kind of alphabets and runes in different times.

The most known, "the futhark" (from first words of the alphabet) was used also in medieval times.

It is known as "medieval futhark" from 1100 to 1500.

You have to consider that latin and catholic culture penetrated in Scandinavia only superficially and it was a very hard process of integration (three centuries).

Norse traditions was too strong and radicated in scandinavian people and a lot of them still followed the old gods.

You can find a lot of texts about this topic :

The transition from Paganism to Christianity in Scandinavia was not an easy one for Scandinavians to make. The Swedish writer, Vilhelm Moberg, called it the "300-year War." From the time of the appearance of the first Christian missionaries in the early 9th century until the final conversions in the 11th and 12 centuries, Pagan Scandinavia was under constant pressure from the forces of the "White Christ." When leaders converted, pressure on the people was increased, of course. Olaf Trygvasson's forced conversions in Norway, as well as Charlemagne's two hundred years before him in Saxony, were no less brutal than any pagan Viking raid. The transition between paganism and Christianity, however brutal and uncertain it might have been, nevertheless, saw a merging of cultures and beliefs. The art and the architecture of the time certainly demonstrate this. We see it reflected in various elements of stave church construction and also in such things as the Skog Tapestry.

Many historians assume that Canute the Great was still pagan and he accepted the christian faith just for political necessities.

However he and many other scandinavian kings (christians) wanted to tolerate pagan people, this proofs pagan culture was still very strong.

Viking culture was pagan and based on war. The decline of viking warriors strongly depended on the introduction of christianity so the presence of runic and pagan symbols is logical.
