Advice on playing as Macedonia? Will it be too easy?
Hi all,
I've had a blast playing two full RTR campaigns, first as the Romans, second as the Germans. Learned a ton of history, and had some nail-biting fights and narrow escapes.
After battling the phalanxes both with the Legions and the Warbands, I'd love to see what it was like to actually command the phalangites in battle.
SO... I'm considering starting a 3rd RTR campaign as Macedonia. My main concern is - are they too powerful for a human player? They just seemed to explode across Greece, Illyria and Thracia when I was playing as the Germans under the AI.
Cheers!

P.S. Oh yeah, one more thing. Is RTR the most historical mod to be playing as the Macedonians? Any recommended add-ons that will heighten the historical realism? Thanks for any replies.

Try a mod in which Macedonia is "rebalanced". I'd recommend Candelarius' Extended Realism + Hic Sunt Dracones. Macedonia starts of in a weaker and poorer position, and the Greek hoplites are given shield wall which completely alters the balance against your phalangites. They're still rather easy to play as, especially if you can get the Greeks out of the way early. For a good challenge later on, forget going east and instead take on the Romans.

Gracchus - thanks for the reply. Will check out your combination of CER + HSC. Cheers!

A quick warning: the latest ExR + HSD combo doesnt work as well as the previous version, so make sure you check out the latest info on those (I'm pretty sure a solution has been discovered, but its a bit tricky).
