Thread: Projectile speeds

    Default Projectile speeds

    Good day,

Im using horse archers abundantly lately and their arrows seem to land with all the force of a potato thrown by a quadruplegic. Its especially visible when shooting point blank with special concentrated fire ability, which seemed like a way to squeeze more damage for some micro but its comletely counterproductive, as horse archers are lobbing arrows in an arc into the enemy from like 10 metres away and volleys need to be lead like we were speaking about anti-air artillery. This isnt even in kids safe range bow draw weight, its almost as if they were thrown by hand. Is there a reason behind it, or is it something to be tweaked, because otherwise, battles feel really good and interesting in DEI, apart from all the projectiles, which look unable to harm anything, but feelings. (Perhaps its not completely correct, but after comparing it, I do feel vanilla projectiles, while still not really stellar, still seem to hit with more speed.)

In DeI we use fixed higher fire arc that simply put, helps with how ranged units perform both for player and what is most important for this, AI.

Base game is using low arc for ranged units, meaning quite often their field of view is blocked.

For ranged units it means they will target enemy but will stand still at best, at worst trigger wont happen and they will just fire into own units, rather than enemies.

For AI positioning ranged units is horrible and when we had lower arc, often lots of ranged AI units just stood there doing nothing (view blocked but wont reposition), maul own units with friendly fire or only small perfect of unit would target player units.

Now since we use fixed high arc, units are not getting blocked as much and both player and AI ranged units perform with a lot less issues (but of course not issue free). Downside is that when it comes to speed of projectiles and arc, all units always adjust speed of projectiles so that they are able to hit enemy, without arrow flying high.

How fast missile files is irrelevant for damage so you dont need to get crazy close like 10 meters away. From old combat traties from various placed we know that for horse archers, ideal range of engagement is between 50 to 80 meters.
