Thread: Black Campaign Map

    Default Black Campaign Map

    Hi all,

Recently downloaded the game again after getting a new desktop and I've downloaded a slew of mods, all from the steam workshop.

When I start grand campaign, the screen turns to black after the initial loading period but I can still see the cursor and hear the music after the loading screen is done.

    The mods are positioned from top to bottom (Graphics - UI - Campaign - Overhaul) as per below;

    Orbis Aquarum
    Orbis Terrarum II
AAA Generals (Greeks - Africans - Romans)
    Improved Environments
CEMN's Blank Borders + Blank Trade Lines + More Trade Ships & Carts
HD Cities - All City Types
    Better Font
    Color List View Icons
    Vox Populi (DEI & Vanilla)
    Imperium Effects Sub-Mod for DEI
DEI - No PO Garrison Negative Submod
    War & Peace
    Realistic Expansion for DEI
    All Diplomatic Options Submod
    Better Children
    DEI (1, 2, 3)

    Please advise, thanks!

Just to add on, I can play custom battles without any issues.

I've also tried following steps 2 & 6 of the DEI Tech-Hardware Tips but to no avail.

Have you tried just DeI 1, 2, 3 to see if you get same issue?

Hi Kam, surprisingly, even with just the DEI activated, the campaign is not working.

I've tried downloading the stand alone copy of DEI as well (and deleted the steam versions) but it's still a black campaign screen with the cursor visible and the background music.

    My hardware includes an I5 12400F Processor - Gigabyte B760M DS3H AX DDR4 - Intel Arc 750 8GB with 16GB Ram so I don't think it's a hardware issue?

Have you tried to verify game cache in Steam?

Hi Kam, I did that as well and looking online, they said to re-download directX, which I did as well.

I've also ticked and un-ticked both the options which are available in the 'mods' settings.

Tried re-installing the game as a last resort and re-downloading the mods but it still did not work.

I apologise in advance for this issue.

Do you require any other information to see if there's something wrong, perhaps my preferences script or log?

Not sure if this would be useful but I have no issues loading up the campaign map if I do not activate any mods.

It's such a shame really, since playing DEI was one of the main reasons why I got a desktop.

Hi Jake, I'm not blaming DEI for this issue, really appreciate the work that you guys put in.

Already downloaded the latest drivers as well already and from what I found online, the intel graphic cards seem to have some issues they've yet to fix so I guess I'm stuck with a DEI-less RTW 2 for now.

I assume you tried deleting your user settings in the appdata folder as well? (backup your saves). I played the game with far worse specs, so that won't be the issue.

Try unchecking the "Unlimited video memory" box in the graphics options, if you have enabled that. I was facing a similar issue, and turning that off allows the game to downgrade the graphics and load properly.

If that works, you can try reducing the texture quality, unit details, building details, etc. (with the unlimited video memory enabled again) to see what combination works for your system. Allocating more virtual memory also helps.
