    Default ATHF Hold Boston Hostage

A recent add campaign for the Adult Swim show, Aqua Team Hunger Force, had it's signs which had been set up by roads and bridges mistaken for bombs by the city of Boston. Of course Boston is outraged by this supposed "threat" to their city and the two responsible for the placement of the ads have been arrested, I just think they're f'ing retarded.

Well, these ads were illegal, at the very least it should be called littering. At the most it could be called vandalism.

I was just coming here to post that, wondering how it hadn't been posted yet.

This is so retarded, I cannot believe how seriously they are taking this. I mean I guess when they suspected them to be explosive, then attention would be warranted, but they KNOW that it was not a bomb hoax, and yet here they are, treating it like Ted Turner sent some goons to blow up Boston.

What gets me is that instead of admitting they made a mistake, they would rather continue like this was some kind of act of terrorism and ruin some peoples lives.

It's official, the terrorists have won, we are living our lives in fear.

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/01/bos...are/index.html
Two men pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges they created panic by placing "bomblike" electronic light boards displaying a cartoon character with an upraised middle finger throughout Boston.

Assistant Attorney General John Grossman called the light boards "bomblike" devices and said that if they had been explosive they could have damaged infrastructure and transportation in the city.
    BUT THEY WEREN'T

IF I had a bomb in my backpack I could kill half of the school.

    BUT I DON'T

"It had a very sinister appearance," Coakley told reporters. "It had a battery behind it, and wires."
    Wires?
    A battery?
Yes, I can really see how people could mistake it for a bomb.

I think all citizens of Boston need to look themselves in the mirror and repeat "I am NOT paranoid, I am NOT paranoid...."

It's official, the terrorists have won, we are living our lives in fear.

That's where the battery is, they have been there for like 2 weeks.

    In 10 major cities.

    2 weeks, really?

Well, at least we now know that if real terrorist want to place bombs in 10 major cities at once they won't succeed because with all the new security measures at airports it's no longer possible to visit 10 cities in 14 days.

    Good job homeland security!

We must admit that this is a public-relations fiasco for all involved, and probably the most bungled marketing campaign in recent memory.

Actually, If the ensuing lawsuit doesn't cost them too much, this may end up being one of the best marketing campaigns by adult swim ever. How could they have ever hoped to get that much media attention from a few dozen lite brites.

They might even get some fox news sheep viewers watching who want to see what kind of terrorist propaganda our college kids are looking at these days.

Was it? What I mean is, they have probably reaped immeasurably more exposure for their product than what they could hope for from the promotion itself. Kind of like the "wardrobe malfunction". Brought Janet Jackson right back to the forefront of celebrity status.

What I see here is a large amount of over-reaction on the part of public safety officials. And it's not the first time.

Absolutlely hilarious! We have become so god damned frightened of everything in this country, are we so consumed by fear now that we make such a big deal over this? GROW the hell up people. "Oooo it had duct tape and wires!" Obviously everything on the planet that has duct tape and wires must be a bomb right?

I say stand your ground guys, dont apologize too much, and screw the frightened masses of sheep that now roam this once great country of ours.

And did you see their "press conference" lol. "We wil only answer questions about our hair." Brilliant!

It's all so sureal, it's a freakin Mooninite! And they've been up in other cities for like 2 weeks already. I find the whole thing ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. Scared, scared little people.

Americans need to just LIGHTEN UP. This is reason #73 why I'm emigrating as soon as I get my PhD. Sure, fine them for vandalism. But don't treat this like a terror plot!

New York schools tried to ban cell phones in class, because they're annoying and kids text message answers to each other. Sounds perfectly reasonable, doesn't it? A group of parents actually sued the school district because, "I need instant communication with my kid in the post-9/11 world!"

Fox news really needs some better reporters.

Like someone why can formulate complete English sentences and somebody who knows how to operate the internets.

PS: is adult swim any good?

Much of it is really good, like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, Venture Brothers and of course Futurama. Some of it is really dumb like 12 oz. Mouse and Tom Goes to the Mayor. But overall I love it.

Actually, I just want to point out that's not the Fox News on cable, its a local news station. These guys are actually left leaning and does some good reporting.

    CNN
Peter Berdovsky and Sean Stevens were released on $2,500 bail, said Mike Rich, their attorney. The next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for March 7.

In a news conference, Rich told reporters he had advised his clients not to discuss the incident. Stevens and Berdovsky took the podium and said they were taking questions only about haircuts in the 1970s.

When a reporter accused them of not taking the situation seriously, Stevens responded, "We're taking it very seriously." Asked another question about the case, Stevens reiterated they were answering questions only about hair and accused the reporter of not taking him and Berdovsky seriously.

Reporters did not relent and as they continued, Berdovsky disregarded their queries, saying, "That's not a hair question. I'm sorry."

Wil Wheaton (of ST:TNG infamy) has something interesting to say on this...

Its the media's fault, and now the media is shifting the blame, is a pretty accurate summation of the piece I link to...
