    Default Chivalry 2 Remastered

    Hello,

I personally believe that a medieval 2 remaster is forthcoming, and as a result, I have been working on bringing together assets for this potential release. When this eventually arrives, I would like to have a plan and high-quality units ready, so that a port for a large scale expanded medieval mod will be ready to go in relatively short order. So, I would like to discuss some things.

I am happy to make the units that will be needed for different factions. I need assistance however with research as I cannot perform that duty as well. I am needing information on what factions will be appropriate for early, high and late era campaigns and what the rosters for each of these factions might look like.

I do not need specific unit names, this can come later, but more along the lines of unit types.

I.E. for Armenia, The early roster consists so far of:

    Cavalry

    • Armenian Nobles
    • Armenian Medium Cavalry
    • Armenian Horsearchers
    • Armenian Mounted Skirmishers

    Melee Infantry
    • Armenian Heavy Spearmen
    • Armenian Heavy Swordsmen
    • Armenian Militia Spearmen
    • Armenian Highland Infantry
    • Armenian Levy Spearmen

    Ranged Infantry
    • Armenian Archers
    • Armenian Levy Archers
    • Armenian Levy Skirmishers

    The Map and the Factions:
Assuming that like RTW Remastered, we will get unlimited provinces, factions and units, I would very much like to utilize a map similar in scope to that of the Kirsi Imperator Map. I have attached some images below.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Beginning with Early Era Campaign (1100) Factions:

    British Isles

    • Ireland
    • Scotland
    • Wales
    • England

    France

    • France
    • Aquitaine
    • Burgundy

    Scandinavia
    • Denmark
    • Norway
    • Sweden

    Iberia

    • Navarre
    • Castile
    • Leon
    • Aragon
    • Taifa of Zaragoza
    • Taifa of Valencia

    Germany
    • Holy Roman Empire
    • Bohemia
    • Austria
    • Saxony

    Italy
    • Milan
    • Genoa
    • Venice
    • Pisa
    • Papal States
    • Sicily

    Eastern Europe
    • Lithuania
    • Poland
    • Hungary
    • Croatia

    Balkans
    • Roman Empire
    • Serbia

    Anatolia & Caucasia
    • Sultanate of Rum
    • Cilician Armenia
    • Danishmends
    • Georgia
    • Shirvan

    North Africa
    • Fatimids
    • Zirids
    • Almoravids
    • Makuria

    Levant
    • Jerusalem
    • Antioch
    • Aleppo
    • Mosul
    • Abbasids

    Steppe
    • Novgorod
    • Kiev
    • Chernigov
    • Cuman-Kypchak Khanate
    • Volga Bulgaria
    • Kara Khitai

    Central Asia/Persia
    • Grand Seljuk Empire
    • Ghaznavids

    Arabia
    • Oman
    • Yemen

    India
    • Sindh
    • Nepal
    • Chalukyas/Hoysala Empire

I realize how ambitious that this project will be, but with unlimited factions, regions, religions and units, much will be possible. I've started off with the early cilician armenia roster, and I will showcase this when ready.

Please let me know your thoughts on this when possible, especially if there are additional factions that should be included or replaced.

I’m not sure that all of these would be appropriate for the 1100 Campaign. The Zengid dynasty was not founded until 1127, so they would not be included until the high era. Mosul and Aleppo take the place of the Zengids for the early era. I like the obotrites for Germany, that would make for 2 pagan factions. I’m leery about including too many german HRE vassal states as it may weaken the HRE too much, and make Germany too crowded. Bavaria seems like a good one to include though.

For the balkans, Albania was occupied by the byzantines in 1100, as was Bulgaria, Wallachia was nominally independent I believe, but a vassal state of the cuman khanate along with Moldova. I don’t know if Wallachia or Moldova were enough of a factor to warrant full rosters or inclusion in the early era. Some Wallachian and Moldovan units would be interesting though.

As far as France goes, I like the idea of Brittany and Flanders, I was also thinking perhaps Provence? As with Germany, I don’t want to overcrowd France or create an insurmountable amount of work for myself.

True! Provence? Idk but the idea of putting Oman in the middle east is a suggestion. Expanding the settlements is the first priority and then the roster.

I cannot work on the map until a Medieval 2 Remaster is released unfortunately. So expanding the settlements will have to wait for that. I’m just trying to lay the groundwork for factions and units so that when or if (hopefully when) a Medieval 2 Remaster is released, we can leap on it and get a comprehensive medieval mod released in relatively short order.

I like Provence because it would add a faction in the South of France which would be pretty bare otherwise. Oman is already included under Arabia.

I think the Ghorids would be a good inclusion as well. India is the area I know the least about.

Frankly speaking, I doubt very much - I think the CA will make late Medieval - Renaissance game in 2024, and they think producing Med2Rem would cannibalize the market..

I hope you’re wrong about that, they’ve proven that they cannot produce novel games at this point and I would not spend money on this if they do produce it. I’d buy medieval 2 remastered tomorrow if it were released on the other hand.

I am getting too old to wait that long, and if they keep using the 'Attila' style map, I will be dissappointed anyway

Hello, just wanted to share a small preview of some stuff I've been working on. As I stated earlier, I am working on rosters for all factions, although I have mainly started with the early roster for Armenia. These are Armenian Heavy Spearmen and Armenian Heavy Swordsmen.

I am aware of the issue with the black area on the coif and the coif dipping into the chest. This is a glitch with milkshape, I have tested the model in-game and it does not do this.

Some in-game pics of the heavy serzhanter units.

    Unit descriptions:

Heavy Serzhanter (spear and sword variants)

The Armenian equivalent of Frankish sergeants or Roman Skutatoi. These are professional heavy infantry which make up the core of Cilicia armies. Armored with Mail down to their thighs, helms and coifs, these men are capable of holding the line or even punching through enemy lines.

    Armenian Horsearchers

Armenian medium Horsearchers, well equipped and trained, they are reliable although not as much so as their Turkish counterparts.

Armenian Medium Spearmen - Medium Spear Serzhanter

Medium semi-professional sergeant spearmen hailing from Armenia. They wear padded armor and short mail hauberks and are quicker albeit less armored than their heavy brethren. They are still capable of holding a battle line.

I see very much Roman, Arab influence but as I say my knowledge is incomplete and I certainly wouldn't want to take away the culture of the first Christian Kingdom

For the early period, the Armenians of Cilicia have units that are largely still very similar to Roman units in their equipment. With their exposure to crusaders, they will adopt some more western style equipment and their military will become more similar to the feudal societies of Europe.
