    mishkin,

Abortion being another example where killing is legal and only so because God's Law is ignored and man's law prevails.

OT would would seem to differ on that.

Indirectly since the laws clearly do not consider life to begin until a child is formed.

Come now sir its clearly the work of the holy spirit. Not include the Gospel of Mary in the canonical new Testament. Holy spirit. Decide to pick the Augustine interpretation of original sin holy spirit. Deliberately choose a a misunderstanding of the Hebrew language on seed and make it a specific foretelling the OT Holy Spirit. Your personal view is driven by the divine guidance those other guys not so much. Want to believe apparent Jesus and his crew were some really literate letter writing publicists that is otherwise unattested. Same answer.

    conon394,

    Jeremiah 1 1
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." and Psalm 139 : 13 " For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I wonder how a child would feel if he or she was considered nothing but a lump of meat when inside their mothers? I mean what does that say about a parent who thinks that way?

Rather metaphysical and metaphoric. On your latter point the Authors of of Exod 21:22 clearly do distinguish between a formed or unformed fetus. The last of which is clearly a hunk of meat. That is how Philo understood it well. Although he vacillates between the more Aristotelian formed/unformed ideal to one life only at birth. But in commenting directly on Exod 21:22 he seems feel the understanding is the former.

So, just another Jew who thought he knew better than God. Life begins when the egg of a woman is fertilized otherwise there would be no life at all as far as humans are concerned. That's how God made us.

basics, what does your god say about torture? In general terms, is he for or against? Should we express our disagreement in this regard when the state exercises or allows it, just as we show disagreement when it legislates in favor of the right to abortion?

Philo did not invent the relevant biblical passage.

Also a bit pompous considering how edited and redacted your proffered version of the New Testament is.

    mishkin,

Is that torturing your child by witholding a sweetie he or she desires or is it tearing a baby apart whilst still inside its mother?

    conon394,

Is it really being pompous by repeating what the disciples wrote about concerning Jesus considering they were there and you and Philo weren't?

    basics,

Do you need to be given examples of atrocities committed by governments on their citizens in the present and in the past? Are you really making fun of that suffering? And please, don't answer me by talking about the suffering of embryos.

Edit: This could be some kind of defense mechanism. impossible to defend god recognizing that there is so much suffering and misery?

    mishkin,

The reason this world is in the state it is is because mankind has turned away from its Maker.

Has the world ever been in an infinitely better situation/not turning his back on "its creator"? What period of humanity has not been plagued by atrocities?

You do realize he's got an answer and its the first few verses of Genesis. Even though realistically that does not qualify.

That has crossed my mind, but worse things have crossed my mind from what I have read. Perhaps now they will tell me that the 12th century in Europe was a precious time where the peasants drank mead and the feudal lords only mistreated, fairly of course, infidels.

    mishkin,

Getting back to the question of tyranny doesn't life and history not tell you that when one is put down another rises up in its place and bodies still pile up? Jesus Christ is the only answer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, your answer is that the world has always turned its back on its creator and it is useless to fight against tyranny because it will always be replaced by another tyranny, such as all the dictatorial regimes that fell giving way to democracies.
