Try putting this in your 'C:\windows\system32' folder
    Put it in 'C:\windows\system' too.

Never tested this in windows 98, so I don't know if it will work.
The zip file contains the .dll it's looking for.

If this doesn't work, put the file in your '(RTW)\data\pak\Patch0' folder, AND in '(RTW)\data\pak\UI_1_pak' folder. In general, put it everywhere!

The xpak.exe program must need it to work.

Noooo is right, I can't even download RS. Can you open up another link such as in depositfiles or Rapidshare. I've downloaded things from filefront before but it won't work for me with RS.

Well, there were 206 downloads of RS in one night....I think the site was getting swapped. What's interesting is that there were 206 downloads of the main installer, and only 136 downloads of Patch7a which fixes a lot of things. Some people have got a messed up version as a result.

I think you are SOL. It looks like Windows98 doesn't support the packer that was made for RTW. Tell me this, go into (RTW)\data\pak\patch0 and tell me if there is a 'data' folder in there? If there is, we may be able to get this to work. It means the RTW .pak file was extracted, it just can't repack it. Also look in that same folder for 'UI_1_pak' folder. Is there a 'data' folder in there?

If not in either folder, I'll create an unpacked '(RTW)\data\UI' folder for you ,and you can download that. It'll be big though.

    Arrgh big downloads
DVK, if you got any ICQ number or Xfire account, PM me,
ill add you for better troubleshooting.
and, yes, there is an "data" folder in both of those directorys,
and there is a "data RS" folder in both of them, too.
    (in UI_1_pak and Patch0)

OK, here's what you must do.

In 'UI_1_pak' you'll see two directories:

    Data
    Data_RS

In the DATA directory there will be a folder called 'UI'. Take that folder and move it to your '(RTW)\data' folder....so it shows up as the last folder and below 'world'.

Now, go into 'Data_RS' and you will also see a 'UI' folder.

Copy that into the '(RTW)\data' folder. If it asks to overwrite anything, say yes to all.

Now, go into the directory C:\(RTW)\Data\packs

    delete 'ui_1.pak ' .....just '1' NOT '0'.

If you have done this correctly the game should work.

All I can tell you for sure is that it does work on RTW:GOLD, as that is the edition I have; so the problem lies elswhere.

You say you've downloaded the patches and run the ui_batch; so I'm not exactly sure where the problem could be. Did you run the ui_batch after downloading the last patch? If you didn't that would be the casue of the CtD. Other than that I'd wait for dvk to give you a more solid reply. Sorry

I've got RTW Gold edition too. No problems!
Did you follow the instructions with the UI patch fully? - it asks a few times to press any key to continue and also for permission to write stuff when you press A for all.

I followed the installation instructions letter by letter, could it be that my computer isnt good enough for the mod, are the requirements the same for rome total war?

In the same map, of course not
But if you have two Rome Total Wars, then I can't see why not

You need to make sure you have two totally seperate RTW folders. The Roma Surrectum one needs to be UNPATCHED i.e vanilla install before you install Roma Surrectum - don't try and install into a copy of your EB one it won't work.

Cool.....the only thing is that the small faction icons in diplomacy will be the old vanilla ones. No way to fix that if you can't repack that particular .pak file. But at least it works now.
