Seems like an anti-immersion decision, but I understand. Many of the unit names especially from the barbarian and nomadic factions seem like alien languages.
Neat idea, but I would have gone all the way and changed the Latin names for Triarii (Roman heavy spearmen), Principes (Roman heavy swordsmen), and Hastati (Roman medium swordsmen) for the sake of consistency. Why exclude them and transliterate all the others into English?
Probably because Hastati, Principes, and Triarii are very heavily ingrained in the pop culture lexicon thanks to Rome Total War. I assume that "Hastati" would be more recognizable than "Roman Medium Swordsmen", but that's just me.
