    Hi ITW fans.
    Sorry for the delay in bringing you new updates, but the launching of M2TW has been a sort of "revolution" (we need also some time to test the new features ). But now, we start a new set of previews with the one devoted to the new sound system.

    ITW Gold will have the most developed (to the best of my knowledge) and original new sound system of any mods. It will be optional, and will be released as a mod apart. Here I am posting a preview of the main features of this new sound system, developed by CeltiberoAsdrubal.

    MUSIC

    The battles don’t contain music, except the sounds of the ancient instruments (horns, trumpets, flutes, etc) used in the ancient armies to march and give orders. The aim of this change is to give a more immersive experience to the player.

    New music has been included for pre-and postbattle times, including the introductory screens.

    In the campaigns, all music is changed, using ancient music.

    VOICES

    The mod will be a complete “ancient languages” mod. We have started from the latinvoice mod, but it has been expanded to the rest of factions. Each culture uses its own language, either real or adapted from the modern languages derived from the ancient one: latin, ancient greek, gaelic, phoenician, poeni, arameic, hebrew, basque, etc.
    The voices have been recorded by members of Clan Celtiberos and friends of our clan, and have been “remasterized” by CeltiberoLlop.

    - Unit names will be listened in the native language when clicked.
    - Voices of march and fight in each of those languages.
    - Portions of the Iliad for greeks.
    - The voices of the enemies will be also listened in the corresponding language.
    - Speeches in native language. All the vestiges of the modern languages have been eliminated.

    AMBIENT SOUNDS

    In general these sounds are more potent than in RTW, as they are really the sounds listened in battle.

    - There are more variety than in the original RTW: rain, snow, wind, rivers.
    - The same with the animals: different sounds for galloping, march, elephants...
    - Weapons and collision sounds, as well as armour sounds.
    - Warcry mod improved, with lower volume, and all the English voices eliminated. New cries and taunts have been included.
    - Also silence is important. Silent moments have been included, mainly for the marching time.

    In general, the mismatching of sound synchronicity have been eliminated (when possible). Questions as latent times have been solved. The remaining problems are now inherent to the system used for this mod, that substitutes the music in battles by ambient sounds and voices.

    An impossible task, due to the system used by CA, is to make the sound volume proportional to the number of soldiers involved in battle. In this way, the sounds will be the same either with 100 or with 2000 soldiers in the battle field (a pitty )

    We hope that this huge work will serve to make you a more immersive experience in an ancient battle.

    Wonderful description from the Master of team.

    This mod will be a way for to discover ancient iberian past before roman conquest: Spoken lenguages based in ancients stones, warcries, corns, tuba for romans, units details based in history, campaing details based in history, etc, etc.:hmmm:

    No, there will be some words in battles which had been played by Iberians, because it was believed there is a relation between ancient iberian and modern basque, but it is not sure. It is sure in ITW time basque was spoken in some areas at north and northeastern of Iberian Peninsula.
    If finally there are in campaign basque mercenary units like ITW 1.5, they will speak basque words.

    Good, by the limited time I have I figured that it would be a miss to play the game without the new sound system..., so can't wait for the release!

    Good job Iberia team, it took you a long time but it's always great to see a new child being born.

    General explanations for very nearly releasing of the new ITW sounds system.


    ITW team has worked for 2 years for to design a new sounds system with more realism and more immersion.

    Our philosophy has been:

    1, To separate from films reproduction of the ancient battles and Hollywoodian music. It is very good for films and it produces releasing of adrenalin, but this wasn´t the reality. For instance, in this battles it wasn´t heard any pieces of music, only war instruments (corns, tubas, etc) and other war sounds (warcries, orders, etc).

    2. To try reproduce ancient battles sounds, indeed voices in dead lenguages (latin, ancient greek, godelic, celtic lenguages, celtiberian, iberian, punic, etc).

    3. To add more variety in campaign music.

    MEANS

    Thanks to historical documentary departament of the mod (CeltiberoIdibil and CeltiberoKarmipoka), we collected texts and possible pronunciations in dead lenguages. We thought the LatinVoice mod from Shigaware was very right adapted to RTW, and so we asked permission for to include in ITW mod from version 1.5. The historical departament has investigated other important things in sounds like right war instruments in every factions, functions and organization of roman musics of legions, etc....
    Later, a lot of members of Spanish Clan Celtiberos and supporters have helped for voices dubbing in every languages with the right supervision.

    Because few founds written texts in ancient lenguages and the absence of known right ruler for pronunciation in some of them (punic, etc) has been taken some fonts and know pronunciated words from similar alive lenguages, for instance, aramean and semitic words for the punic.
    It was investigated indeed the names of units in every language.

    Indeed, we saved possible speeches of general before battles in ancient languages for to reproduce better the sound atmosphere of the event.

    After saving of the voice, we made a process of selection, pulished and volumens adaption. Before, we investigated a lot of details of sounds system of RTW. We must give gratitude to CA for to allow to mod sounds system in text archives.
    For to assemble the sounds we have used some programms like Nero, Windows player, Winamp, etc.
    We obtained for this mod free sounds from Spanish Sciencie and Education Ministry/Deparment, etc (special web page).

    Later we tested every change in custom battles (slow and hard work) for to select the best and to eliminate the worst, and for to investigate possible CTDs, blockades and lags in the battles from new sounds system.

    We decided to ask permission for to use warcrymod system, but we eliminate or changed some sounds like modern english words or wrong words and warcries for sound atmosphere of the mod.

    At the end of year 2007, Clan Celtiberos made an internal testing of system, and the conclusion was some sounds were very shrill, and so the system was directed to more realism. In the relation realism/immersion we decided the best was the realism with the most possible immersion.

    We think the most revolucionary change from RTW system was to change the music of the battle to other sounds like war historical instruments (roman tubas, roman corns, for romans, etc) weapons sounds, combat men sounds, warcries, etc. The problem: In the RTW battle music only it has encoded three events:
    1. Tension: Before movements of troops
    2. Movement: Between Tension and combat
    3. Combat: From starting combat of one unit.

    This events start if a unit fight or all units fight, and so the proportion sounds is very difficult. We pulished this effect but it is possible players hears sometimes desproportions in sounds. Maybe, sometimes the beggining of sounds based in this events can be non adjusted. From ITW 1.5 sounds version we have pulished these effects. We have eliminated some combat event sounds like heavy medieval swords, etc.

    INNOVATIONS IN BATTLES

    1. Eliminated music custom battles. This has been changed to other sounds in relation to culture (it is not possible for faction for RTW machine limits). This sounds can be listened at random. For movements: Troops movements, silences, war songs, war battle instruments, orders. For combats: Men fighting, swords, voices. Indeed for the greeks it was listened some Iliade fragments (from general or from musician).

    2. Eliminated all voices from soldiers in modern language. Now, the player can only listen his soldiers in ancient language voices. When it has been possible the orders were traduced exactly, but many times it wasn´t possible (very few known written fragments in ancient languages). It was added new voices to latinvoice mod (specially for the charge, and orders like sin-dex-sin-dex for movements (disciplined troops) (right-left-right-left).

    3. Units names listened in the own ancient language when the player click in, and sometimes, at random, it was listened the musical instrument of the culture (for romans based in historical texts (Polybius, Llivius, etc)

    4. Players can listen enemy voices when enemy troops are nearly.

    5. Charge sounds in the combat: Agony, charge orders in ancient languages, charge instruments,

    6. Speeches from general before battles in ancient recreation languages.

    7. Higher Vanilla sounds like wind, rain, horses, animals, elephants, troops marchings. Now, slingers only can produce stones sounds, no arrows (bug from own RTW). Other changes.

    INNOVATIONS IN CAMPAIGNS
    1. Added new music to every campaing (for cultures, no for factions, RTW machine limitation).

    2. Added new sounds effects after every turn (at random).

    3. New sounds effects when you click in the icons.

    4. Added new musical study creations like diezmo legions, etc (Thanks, Magister CeltiberoLlop).

    5. Added remarks after battles (victories and defeats) in relation to culture and its own gods (in english and spanish, modern languages, in every version).

    6. Sound random documentary in campaigns (in english and spanish, modern languages, in every version) (for culture like the music, proportion 8 songs/ 2 sounds documentary). For this, we thanks to our translator for dubbing and ambassador from our clan Celtiberos, CeltiberoEco: Fragments from Estrabo, Polybius, etc (thanks to Historical Mod Departament, CeltiberoIdibil and CeltiberoKarmipoka).

    INSTRUCTIONS FOR RIGH USE OF ITW SOUNDS SYSTEM.

    1. ONLY POSSIBLE IN SOUNDS PREFERENCES (YOU CAN CHANGE IN THE INITIAL SCREEN) MILES 2D. OTHER OPTIONS CAN PRODUCE BLOCKADES OR BATTLES CTDS. The quality of sounds is similar (tested).

    2. My advise for to better enjoy of system is the next preferences: Voices 85%, Music 95%, Special effects 100%, Deep sounds 85-90%.

    3. Because a lot of MB in installation, the charge of mod can be delayed (5-8 minutes in relation with the PC power). When the player finish the game, it is possible he can listen strange and repeated sounds, but it doesn´t happen after 2 minutes.

    4. It wasn´t found in this version CTDs, blockades or lags in direct relation with sounds system, but all are possible in the life. If the player have a suspicion of lag or CTD in the middle of a battle, maybe he can test the same battle without sound system and to communicate the results in these forums.

    5. If the player clicks in credits bottom, he can listen all documentary sounds (for every modern language: Spanish or English).

    The team is waiting this mod and its sounds can serve for to reproduce and know (for time-virtual traslation) the Ancient Iberia, the Tartessos heir, and its History, civil and military,and, of course, all peoples who lived in the Iberian Peninsula before Roma Imperium.

    Only some brief data to give you the idea about the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge amount of work done by Asdrubal and the rest of people devoted to this sound system.

    The whole system consists in about 4700 files, structured in 40 folders, that represent almost 1.2 GB once installed.

    Given that mp3 and other sound files are already compressed, the installer is also a huge file, 730 MB, and I'm having some problems finding a suitable hoster. Filefront accepts files up to 1 GB, but the upload time must be less than 10 h. Connection was broken last night and I'm trying again this morning (from my home PC), but the initial estimation of upload time was 12 h .

    This is now the most important problem for sharing this mod with you, ITW fans.:hmmm:

    Yeah , this mod is pretty interesting , the only thing it lacks is custom music and sounds. I've kept this mod installed and will be hoping for a patch soon !
