If you have had Rome II battles that you particularly enjoyed playing, or watching, I'd be interested to hear about them.
Here's one of mine. I'm playing the grand campaign as Egypt, and am attacking Rome in the west while I fall back from a combined Seleucid and Baktrian attack in the east. I enjoy Heir of Carthage's videos, so I watched a couple of Rome II multiplayer battles where he plays Egypt against Rome, to see what units and tactics he used. I particularly enjoyed this one.
In this battle, Heir had a main line of Hellenic sword infantry, and of course Rome's sword infantry are better. He brought a couple of Egyptian archers, which were less effective than the skirmishers his opponent brought. We might expect that this would mean that Heir would have the advantage in cavalry. He kind of had a cavalry advantage, as his Ptolemaic lancers were deadlier in a charge than anything the Roman player brought, but Heir also brought some Citizen Cavalry, which I've often heard criticised as useless - and the Roman player brought elite Praetorian melee cavalry which could probably have defeated Heir's horsemen in a prolonged fight. Without any decisive advantage in infantry, skirmishers or cavalry, Heir would have to use smart tactics to win - and his Citizen Cavalry were a vital component in his tactics. Here's what happened.
